More consumers are planning to purchase fuel-efficient diesels as their
next vehicle. According to AutoPacific, about 5 percent of total
new-vehicle buyers plan to buy a diesel-powered vehicle at their next
purchase. Approximately 22 percent of those surveyed said that they
would choose a new diesel model within the next two years.

Of the consumers surveyed, 54 percent would consider a Ford truck,
30 percent a GMC, and 49 percent were considering Chevrolet. About 80
percent of future diesel owners are male, compared to an industry
average of 60 percent male. While Ford holds a major market share in
diesel trucks, Chevrolet and Dodge are showing up more in consumers’
stated consideration of vehicle brands.
