According to a recent survey by the Power Information Network (PIN), Americans have
continued to buy heavy vehicles with big engines at a steady rate in the first quarter of
this year, despite rising fuel prices.

During the first three months, approximately 25
percent of new vehicles sold in the United States had V-8 engines, according to PIN, part
of consulting firm J.D. Power and Associates. The market mix for four- and six-cylinder
engine vehicles also has not changed, following higher gas prices. During the past nine
months, just over 40 percent of new vehicles had six-cylinder engines, while four-cylinders
were present in just over 30 percent of new vehicles.
