Fuel prices may remain at current highs through September, or might go higher, through the
end of the year, reported the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). The EIA, which
is part of the Department of Energy, states that gasoline will average $2.25 per gallon
(nationally) through at least early September. That’s about 35 cents a gallon more than in
2004.

Prices are expected to remain high throughout this year and will likely stay around
$2.20 a gallon through 2006, the EIA said. Gas prices have risen in the past two weeks to
an average of $2.32 nationwide.
