A one-year-old RV rental firm is making inroads in an unlikely location-the Big Island of
Hawaii. Kona-based Island RV, which boasts a fleet of 22-foot Fleetwood Tioga Class C’s,
has enjoyed strong business from travelers who desire to see the island by RV. Owner Clark
Carr, who also operates a business that rents snorkeling gear, bicycles and other sports
equipment, found that consumers are eager to tour the island with the convenience of an RV.
Getting started took several fact-finding trips to the island to explore the feasibility of
the RV-rental business. Although there is only one campground on the island (at Volcanoes
National Park), Carr negotiated with the county to allow RVers to overnight at specified
parks.
