New Inventions May Save Lives

New inventions jointly developed by Dana Corp. and Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems will
allow large trucks to monitor tire pressures and add antilock brakes to trailers for
improved safety.
The companies have combined their technologies into an electronic control
module that combines ABS, tire-maintenance tracking and tire monitoring into one
trailer-based system.
The combination is Dana’s Spicer Tire Inflation and Monitoring System
(TIMS), along with the Bendix TABS-6 antilock braking system. The system displays tire
pressures on the dash, and diagnostics can be done with a Bendix Internet-based system.
Eventually similar systems may become available for travel trailers.
