Approximately 450,000 Dodge Durango SUVs are the target of a new safety probe launched by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) following reports of suspension problems.

According to NHTSA, it has received four complaints that the upper ball joint in the front suspension could fail, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

In two of the incidents, the wheel separated from the suspension. In the other two incidents, the front suspension collapsed. These complaints were highlighted with many more complaints that the ball joints on 1998-2003 Durango models wear out prematurely.
