Pep Boys auto-parts stores are recalling approximately 8,600 Cooper tires because of potential belt separation.

Customers who bought Cornell, Definity, Futura brand Cooper tires between August 13 and October 27, 2006, should return them to Pep Boys for free replacement.

More than 3,400 of the tires were already removed from Pep Boys inventory, the company said.
