Interior Secretary Gale Norton announced the relaunch of the Take Pride in America program
at a National Press Club Newsmakers’ Luncheon in Washington, D.C., on April 16. She was
joined by other key Bush administration leaders as they outlined plans for the program.
Secretary Norton unveiled the new logo, described the new volunteer recognition efforts and
introduced 100 charter partners of the revitalized program. The Good Sam Club was one of
the partners introduced at the relaunch event. “As a charter member of Take Pride in
America, we were delighted to see this program come back to life,” said Sue Bray, Good Sam
Club executive director. “Our members’ philosophy is very compatible with the program’s
mission and purpose. Our annual Cleanup Day is an excellent example of how we maintain the
integrity of state and national parks. It is a great source of pride for our members and a
huge volunteer effort.” Take Pride in America will become a major part of the President’s
USA Freedom Corps Initiative, encouraging citizen stewards to take part in protecting and
restoring public lands. “Good Sam Club members will be participating nationwide the weekend
of May 17 and 18 in a volunteer cleanup effort that involves hundreds of people,” said
Bray. “Relaunching Take Pride in America could not have come at a better time.” The renewed
Take Pride in America program — www.takepride.gov
— will recognize and provide further volunteer opportunities for Americans to fulfill
their commitment to serve others, assist the U.S. government in achieving their stewardship
mission for public lands and public places, and engage people in outdoor experiences.
