RE: Pop ups and HOT weather camping.

Duxtin. One of the issues with cooling a PUP is that the bunkends have no insulation. Many folks have purchased the Popup Gizmos or made the covers themselves. Additional folks have purchase Reflectix insulation and made inserts for the bunkend windows. Hope this helps. Ruide

RE: de winterizing

sgtks84 Here is a photo gallery with instructions on dewinterizing. Note in addition to getting out the antifreeze you should also sanitize the pluming as well as your fresh water hose. Hope this helps. Ruide

RE: fleetwood avalon fresh water inlet blocked

Paleohombre, I'm assuming you have cleaned out any debris that might be caught in the stainer of the city water intake. Now when you say the value is OK are you referring to the facet valve or the one way value on the city intake? If the faucet worked with your pump and fresh water tank I would suspect the city water intake one way valve is defective or not seated correctly. If water flows out of the drain valves under your PUP then the issue could be a kink in the line or the facet valve. If this was your first camping trip of the year and you had drained the hot water tank, remember it will take a while for the tank to fill before you will get water from the hot water lines. Finally, have you checked your water pressure regulator to ensure it is not defective? Hope this helps. Ruide

RE: Need Mod for Storing awning poles - 4" PVC Mod

As far as Ruide's picture goes, I'm trying to figure out what was holding up the awning when the picture was taken. Tom, The secret is to put the horizontal poles at an angle. If kept horizontal the awning will sag in the middle and fall over toward the PUP. When placed at an angle it pushes the awning away from the PUP. Hope this helps. Ruide

RE: Need Mod for Storing awning poles - 4" PVC Mod

He Ruide, I don't like to store the poles inside the awning bag because my last bag ripped because of the poles. I don't think I have the velcro straps, but I am going to check. They also had some rust from being in the bag with some moisture. Maybe I will try this again, but thought I would use the pvc tube after seeing others do it. Thanks for your great web page, I have read it for other mods. Mac, You are welcome. Take care. Ruide

RE: Need Mod for Storing awning poles - 4" PVC Mod

Mac, Is there a reason why you don't want to store the awning poles inside the awning bag? I run my three poles through the three cloth loops as shown in this picture. Regarding the "U" bolts, consider mounting two small ones on the INSIDE of PVC pipe near each end. Alternatively, you can use three large screw clamps on the outside. Hope this helps. Ruide

RE: Bal Leveler and Single Wheel Chock

Mac, Thanks for raising this question as I had a SPUT before I got the procedure right. Now I do the following: 1. Place and tighten the single wheel chock on the high side tire 2. Place the BAL leveler on the low side tire 3. Raise the tongue jack and disconnect the TV from the PUP 4. Level the PUP "front to back" with the tongue jack 5. Level the PUP "side to side" with the BAL leveler Hopes this helps. Ruide PS I've not tilted my PUP to address AC run off.

RE: Backing up to hitch alignment aids

I use them also but in my case I only need one. I place it on the coupler and when the spare tire touches it the coupler is right over the ball. Ruide

RE: Shower curtain replacement

Like Fleetwoodmac, I also replaced the stiff plastic shower curtain with a polyester water resistant shower curatin that is hookless. I've also replaced the small curtain rod with 1 inch PVC pipe. These curtains are available at this site. Hope this helps

RE: Which is the best hitch ball lube?

Teckwriter, I clean the hitch coupler during the spring when I doing the annual PUP maintenance. Every one or two trips I'll wipe the lube off the ball and apply new lube. Hope this helps Ruide

RE: Which is the best hitch ball lube?

Another thing you could do is buy a teflon coated ball. I remember someone posted a link on here once, I just don't remember who. Anderson Manufacturing makes a nylon coated hitch ball. I've purchase one from a RV dealer but have never tested it. Search Google for "Greaseless hardball" and you'll find several links. Here is one link. Hope this helps. Ruide For the record, I grease my hitch ball and when not towing I cover it with a Reese soft hitch ball cover. With this cover I don't have to clean the grease off after towing and it protects my shins should I make contact with the hitch ball.

RE: Water Heater Problem

KCC, Thanks for the clarification and we will all be waiting for you update. Regarding your one way valve question... I did not take that photograph. However, I believe that system has another valve at the top "T", but the stem is turned toward the tank. That valve would prevent antifreeze from the bottom "T" going into the hot water tank. Some by pass systems like mine uses a back flow preventer to achieve the same goal. Here is a CAMCO Water Heater Bypass Kit showing both valves. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u243/heruide/bypasskit-1.jpg Here is another kit with a single valve and a back flow preventer. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u243/heruide/329195.jpg To help understand the water flows in a PUP I suggest you review Natasha's Camping site section on winterizing. His illustrations explains some of the back flows when hot/cold water taps are left open. Hope this helps. Ruide

Bondebond, Point of clarification, I only use the electric blanket to warm up the memory foam but I do sleep under it. Ruide

RE: Water Heater Problem

Steve, you are right. However the same principle applies with either the inside or outside hoses. If the system is a steady state you should be able to get hot water if you only turned on the hot water valve SAY AT THE SINK. The intermittent warm, cold, warm flow as I describe would occur with both shower valves being open. Now maybe what is missing from the problem statement is that is lack of not getting "near scalding hot water" occurred ONLY at the hoses... and he never tried turning down those cold water valves NOR run only the hot water valve at the sink. RE: Looking for a Project....

He Ruide great site and cool mods. enjoyed looking at your photos and mods. Ruide's comments in green Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed them, i placed a wired thermometer in the fridge to monitor the temp. but i like your idea better. i don't use propane on the road. i use 12v (don't know if that's good, bad, right or wrong) just to maintain the temp since no one is going in there. Nothing wrong with using 12 volts as long as you don't leave it on while eating lunch or overnight as it will drain the battery quickly. where can i get a cube fan? i don't know if i even have room for it. we eat pretty good when we camp and the fridge is full usually. Here is a link for two cube fans ... considering putting 1/2 inch foam board under the bunk mattresses (that a good idea?). Most folks use reflectix under the mattresses and swear by it. Other say because there isn't an air barrier it doesn't work. IIRC I read of one person using foam board. In my case I have the mattress, a 3 inch memory foam and an electric blanket. I turn on the blanket, warm up the memory foam and I'm good to go. Hope this helps Ruide

RE: Water Heater Problem

KCC, I don't know if you have winterize yet, but it not I would love to know if the shower valve cause the problem. I'm saying this because the symptoms you describe are different that what typically happens with the shower valve being open. Skip is right in saying leaving the shower values open will cause the hot and cold water to mix. What happens is IF you don't have a one way value at the hot water tank outlet, then as the water pump re-pressurizes the system cold water will begin to fill the hot water tank through BOTH the cold water line AND also push cold water though the shower valve into the hot water line. When you turn on the show head, you get a little warm water that was in the line between the shower head and the valves, follow by cold water from the cold water line AND the plug of cold water that was forced up into the hot water line, then finally warm water from the mixture of hot and cold water. Turn off the cold water and you get enough hot water to end the shower! This scenario is different that what you described where you were no longer getting "near scalding hot water" from the hot water tank as you did before. I'm assuming this also meant the kitchen sink. Now Skip mentioned that you should look at the hot water tank by pass system. It might be that the value(s) are not fully turned. This would create the condition where you are getting a mixture of cold and hot water from the hot water heater system. Hopefully, this picture is helpfully. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u243/heruide/bypasskit2.jpg If the shower and/or by pass valves don't solve the problem then we may have to look at the water heater temperature control system - I'm assuming that the heater flame looks normal. Hope this helps. Ruide

RE: Evolution E3 Leaking Roof

Ace, Got it, I'm with you, and I wish you all the best. One thing I see is I can find the link to a cartoon that explains the process whereby law is formed. It might be a nice gift for your dealer. Take care and again all the best. Ruide PS Yes I found the video with the federal process and a flow chart with the state process. Hope it helps and I'm sharing it here as it may be entertaining to others. I'll send by PM two other docs specific to Oregon. Ruide

RE: A question?

I think the issue is that you can't have a specific sig pic for each section. So unless you create collage of all the RVs you have you just go with your favorite. IMHO it is great that folks who moved on to another RV still have the time to post here and share their knowledge. I find it entertaining, where on infrequent occasions, when some one whom either has forgotten how a PUP works or what equipment a PUP has will provide advice that is not applicable. Those are few and far between and someone (typically Mike) steps to correct the misinformation. Ruide
