RE: Complete List of Toy Haulers

Here is one I found when I was looking for custom made Toy Haulers: Startracks (www.startracks.org). Their 5th wheel/toy hauler page is here: http://www.startracksmotorsports.com/5thwheel_plan.html
Just looked at their site. It looks a little out of date. A lot of their floor plans have a copyright date of 2005. They say they offer a 6x6 conversion, but a lot of the pictures come from USA 6x6 which was a horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, company which is no longer in business. If they think USA 6x6 was up to their standards that they would pimp them, then startracks would be a company I would really look at hard before giving them any money.

RE: How much should it cost to replace an engine?

Is the 4.6 like the 5.4 in my 1997 Expedition where the body has to come off the frame to replace the engine? Or is there more room with the 4.6 to wiggle it out with a cherry picker?

That would fit the bill for a toned down/non race looking interior.

RE: Ford 5.4L Spark Plugs

I went to Ford dealer to get a quote for my 06 Explorer V8, and the tech advisor started talking to me how they would use helicoil in case of a problem.... He had no clue....That was sad.
Guess he was probably thinking of the earlier 5.4's that would just blow the spark plug out of the hole? Then you would use the helicoil and screw in the new plug?

RE: Would you trade? 2010 Dodge 3500

Has a urea tank, estimated to last 30K miles.
I didn't think the 2010 Ram 3500's had UREA. It sounds like the salesman even knows less about the truck than hauling a 5th wheel.

RE: How much to pay for 2010 Road Warrior 405?

Talking to dealers that USED to carry Road Warriors, they should be paying you to take the trailer. If you are looking at spending that kind of money there are better choices out there.

RE: Fuzion 322 T.E. II...a few minor issues.

I have one major issue with mine and that is the wooden frame for the top garage bed. By the sticker in the garage they are rated for 500 lbs. each. I had a 200 pound person sleep in it and it is falling apart.
Maybe that 200 pound person invited a 305 pound lady over for some action in that bed and broke it like Goldilocks.
What dealer are you using here in Nor Cal?

RE: GM/Isuzu joint venture that builds Duramax at risk

At least it should be American made. They own Cummins maybe they can work something out with them, I don't see why Cummins can't build an engine for Chrysler and Ford at the same time, it wouldn't have to be the same engine. what are you talking about?
Thats a good question. I was assuming that he was going with the old false fact that Ford owns Cummins.

RE: Any tips for Private Party selling my TH

Coming from someone who is in the market for a TH....definitely go overboard with the detailed photos. That's the first thing I look for on my ongoing, daily quest for the right TH. If I see any ads without detailed photos I just skip over them, and move onto the next.
If not doing already, consider using an external photo hosting site like Photobucket, so the user can view more detailed photos. Alot of these classified services change the quality (for the worst) of the photos once you upload.
That is spot on info. When I sold my tow vehicle, travel trailer, and rock crawler, I used Craigslist and just hot linked my photos from my Photobucket account. Take lots of quality pics and make sure you have a detailed description. It doesn't hurt that I keep all my stuff immaculate and it shows in the pics and in person. I sold my travel trailer in 4 days and got 8 calls the first day alone. The deal was made on the 2nd day and I had a list of names and numbers in case things fell through with the first buyer.

RE: Advice for a friend/ Buying Programs

That doesn't seem right. Are the jacking around with the MSRP or something?
If Dodge PP is 1% less than Actual dealer invoice plus any current incentives, wouldn't the price be much lower than a sale item?
I think its all a game with different factors involved. These programs from the auto makers are great if you don't want to have to haggle and want a decent price. Is it the best price? No. If you know how to play the game and understand rebates, dealer holdbacks, actual invoice, etc you can do better than any of the programs. Look at any of the major gm, ford, dodge diesel websites and you will across people that got better deals than the programs because they understand the business.
One of the reasons that megacab is a better deal straight from the dealer than through the program is that the dealer is throwing in a lot of year end holdback money into it. Also some 2010's have arrived and this "new" 2009 is going to look old next to them. Its a good time of year to buy right now if you will to take "last" years model because you won't get a 2010 that cheap. Thats when the discount program looks good, at the beginning of the model year when they are not slashing prices of the new.

RE: Anybody take a Toy Hauler to Leavitt Lake CA off Hwy 108

yea you couldn't go up there this time of year. I bet there is close to a foot of snow at that elevation right now, not to mention the storm that is coming in a few days. Even during the middle of summer there are still patches of snow around there, not to mention the constant wind blowing.

RE: Advice for a friend/ Buying Programs

It depends on what the deals are at the time. I was just looking at a new 2009 Dodge 3500 megacab dually with the Laramie package with a MSRP of 59K. The delaers sale price was $45,900. My preferred pricing plan with rebates was going to be $47,300. It was going to be cheaper to go with the dealers sale price and haggle for more off than to settle for preferred pricing.

RE: Biggest Toy Hauler I've seen

I think I saw the sistership to this Titanic at Folsom Lake RV in SAC the other day, I was wondering how big it was. In person it's multiple zip codes. Guy was pulling it with a Ford Ranger though, said it towed like it wasn't even back there.;)
I believe that belongs to the guy who owns Folsom Lake RV. If I am not mistaken he has a sand car he hauls around with it.

RE: Anybody take a Toy Hauler to Leavitt Lake CA off Hwy 108

Its been about 7 or 8 years since I have been out there, but I probably wouldn't try to pull a trailer down that road. I didn't need 4wd, but it seemed there were a couple tight sections along with a few small culverts to cross that could make it interesting for 5th wheel to bed clearance issues. As you probably remember that once you start down that road you won't be turning around with a trailer in tow.

RE: Rear Lockers instead of 4WD

For the "best bang for the buck", I would go with a Lincoln Locker.
Probably less than $40 "out the door".
Drive down to your local weld shop, drain the rear end oil, pop of the cover, let the shop foreman weld your spider gears with a "Lincoln" welder. Pop the cover back on, re-fill with oil, and you are on your way.
2WD, all the time. No clutches, springs, or oil additives. The annoyance of hopping around corners, excessive tire wear, and all the popping goes away after a while.
Hope this helps.
I assume you are joking, but if not its a horrible idea. Might be cool for a broke 20 year old with a trail rig that can't afford a spool, but not a motorhome. Unless you are going to wheel this motorhome most of the time I would forget about a spool or a detroit. Go selectable with ARB or E locker if you plan to see any time on the pavement. First you have to find out what rear end you have in the vehicle and see what lockers are available for it.
As far as converting to 4wd, unless you can do the fab work yourself and hunt down all the necessary parts that will work(front end, transfer case, adapters, new drive lines, etc) its not going to be cheap. If they make these motorhomes in 4wd it would be cheaper to sell yours and buy one thats already 4wd.

RE: 2008 Dodge 3500 6.7L Towing Capacity

I just purchased an 09 Dodge 3500 mega cab DRW 4X4 with 3.73 axle. I am now shopping for a toy hauler. Most of the large ones ie: Cyclone, Road Warrior and Newmar X-Aire all have a dry wt. of about 13K and a gross of 18K. Is it even possible to tow that with what i have. I see that MadMav has the same truck as mine only an 08. That trailer behind his truck looks very heavy. What gives Mav? Any comments please. I guess if I wanted I could change the ring and pinon gear out to a 4.10 or higher (which is actually lower).
Looking forward to my future adventures.
I am looking at purchasing the same truck, but the payload ratings are horrible compared to the QC dually. I just got rid of a 2500 QC for something with more room and towing capacity and was disappointed to see the Megacab ratings.

RE: Fuzion Recall

I would agree with others, do it yourself. Get the axle rating of all three, and then see what the tires max out at. I'm sure the axle rating will be much higher. Then go to the scales and get some real measurements and it will give you some peace of mind.
I believe the 302 he has and the 322 only have 2 axles and not 3, so I guess the weight ratings are even more important to make sure you are within spec.

RE: Price of Jake Brake

I thought the 07 had it installed as a standard option and also that the 07 had the 6.7L. I must be confused.
The 6.7L didn't come in until 07.5 and came with the exhaust brake. The early 07's were still 5.9 with no EB.
