RE: American Cruiser vans

G-Gup had one for quite awhile. He would be a great person to ask about this van. His was a dually. You probably remember him (Gary) because he was at a lot of the first B-Rallies and lives in South Dakota. He has now moved up to a C (Trail Lite) and likes it really well. He has hosted the mini-rallies in Nirobrara a couple of times. Michael

RE: Sleeping in Camper Vans Could Be Deadly

Lynne, Don't laugh at this; but when we stayed in East St. Louis, I slept with a hatchet close to my bed and JaneAnn had a claw hammer next to her. We had no nightmares or intruders. Oh Well! Lost opportunities! Michael

RE: Budget Worksheet for Fulltimers.

I think he means fixed EXPENSES. The FIXED expenses are those expenses that do not change from month to month. Your RV payment would be a good example as well as your insurance payment if you pay that monthly. Variable expenses are those that fluctuate with the activity undertaken. Fuel would be a good example. Maybe he meant all of your Budgeted expenses should be no more than 60% of your income with the rest going into savings for those things you "Want" to buy later. I think you would want a certain level in your savings account, i.e. three or four months worth of Budgeted expenses for those things you forget to Budget or suddenly increase like fuel costs. RE: Budget Worksheet for Fulltimers.

The point, do not get fixed assets such as RV payment and expenses more then the 60% level. As written above, this statement makes absolutely no sense. Your fixed assets are things you own for the long term like vehicles, homes, furniture, etc. RV payments and expenses are just that, expenses. I would like to understand your formula and point, but you will have to be clearer for me to do that. Michael

RE: Failed inverter? Nope... loose plug in!

Jay, I'm reminded of the scene in Sling Blade where they are trying to start a garden tiller and call over Carl to take a look at it. He checks and finds that the tiller has no gas. His boss says: "See Skeeter, he always checks the simplest thing first." You are a long way from home. Travel safely. Michael

RE: Driver seat height

Put a swivel adapter on it if it doesn't already have a swivel seat. That would add a couple of inches. Michael

RE: No longer a Moderator

Rodger, Not only did I think you were a fair moderator, you were a fun one, too! I'll miss your greeting cards and fun posts. Enjoy that wonderful house (we will be in Green Valley very soon) and spend some more quality time in that "B". I, too, will have to bookmark your personal site since it is one of the most complete "B" links on the web. Thanks for your service to the forum. Michael

RE: The new Dodge van?

I googled in on a Fiat Ducato owner feedback website and many of the owners weren't very happy with their purchase I don't have any real interest in this product one way or another, but wonder how many happy owners or trouble free owners would bother to take their time and google in their opinions. This is true for any product. When you are unhappy, you make every effort to let everybody know about it! Just my observation of product comments/ratings made on the web. Michael

RE: 2010 Seventh Annual RV.net Class B Rally (B7)

It is nice to see that so far, 12 of 29 registered have never attended a B-Rally before. This will kind of make up for those out here in the midwest and south who feel it is too far to drive. Luckily, we have relatives to visit on this trip in PA and NH, so we will be able to hit a few more areas. I would like to visit Vermont and Maine, too if we don't get too crabby :M with each other. RE: Not Just For Motorcycles

I looked at them and sat in them at REI Coop ($55) and found them to be sturdy and comfortable (for me at 220 lbs.) with a normal 17" seat height. There is a video showing how easily it folds and unfolds. If I buy them it will be my 4th or 5th attempt at finding a chair I like for our B. I am not saying this is the perfect chair for you, but if it was; let me see: 4 times $40 equals $160 and 5 times $40 equals $200. Now if you could just find someone who owns one that would let you try it out! :) Michael

RE: Not Just For Motorcycles

I liked it until I looked at the price!! $129? Really? Think of it like a "B". Handmade for a relatively small number of customers and therefore, more costly. I noticed that it also must be very well built to be able to guarantee that it will hold a 350# person. Speaking for the king-sized population, I don't think I could get up from it without the leg extensions (another $30). Michael

RE: Penthouse sleeping platform

I've taken mine out and there is no more noise than before and you are right; it does make the set-up easier. The penthouse is an option and many people do not have it. If you have a rattle, you probably do not have your top hinged down tight enough. Just give the turnbuckles a couple of twists. The snaps should be tight but not so tight as to take your finger off when closing! :) Michael

RE: 2010 Seventh Annual RV.net Class B Rally (B7)

Congratulations, Bruce! Let me know what I can do to help. I know it will be a great rally as they always have been in the past and you will have a lot of help if you want it. My two cents worth; keep it simple with lots of fire and social time. At this time we are planning to attend but we will have to leave about March 1 to get there by May. :) Michael and JaneAnn

RE: Class B's that will fit in a garage.

Nick, I think my SMB is 7 foot 2 inches tall, so will not fit in the garage at the house. However, I think Ann and Dick's is shorter. You should consider the SMB and just get exactly what you want. You could put two single gaucho beds in the back. If you get a Ford, I think both seats could swivel and you could easily stop and have lunch and rest on your trips. The pop top is very easily put up and down and/or get a motorized one. I would maybe consider a trade with you if I could talk you know who into it :) Michael

RE: Safari Condo

I looked at these before I ordered my Sportsmobile. You should be aware that you can not import these already converted into the United States. You would need to take a U.S. licensed van to them and have it converted in Canada. I never looked into the question of comprehensive insurance for this product. Michael

RE: 2010 Seventh Annual RV.net Class B Rally (B7)

Bruce and I are checking this site frequently but doesn't seem to be much activity. Plenty of time to nominate a site if you don't care for either of ours (maybe somewhere in between?). Remember there are plenty of us out here ready to help no matter where the Rally is held, so don't be afraid to jump in! I hope this lack of traffic is not indicative of the number of people who still have interest in attending a National Rally. Michael

RE: 2010 Seventh Annual RV.net Class B Rally (B7)

I'd say these fellows have the best BBQ in Des Moines! http://www.smokeydsbbq.com/ Darren and Shad have fed me before and beaten me several times at BBQ competitions. A rally up there might just entice me to travel without hauling the cooker behind the Vista Cruiser! Candy Candy, They are located a quick 30 minutes from the campground. Come on up! We would be glad to have you and Vivian would love to meet you, too! Michael
