Since the topic is budgeting, we don't really do a formal budget but we do manage our funds very carefully. We also have the past four years of our expenses posted in detail. If you are interested in what we spend each year just visit our financial page.

Since we are about to go full time next month in our 5th wheel - mind if I ask a couple of questions?
Well first off we have done several worksheets for budgets and maintenance and I am happy that they are similar to these mentioned and downloads.
What is Workamping or Hosting?
What is DirectWay Internet?
thanks

We are considering the idea of full-timing in a Class A MH. I would like to get a general idea of what I can expect to pay for vehicle insurance on a used 38 foot, diesel unit. We're still shopping for a MH. Any suggestions?

I attempted to find a thread close to my question, if not please redirect. I'm about 5 years from retirement, am a tightwad, and wondering about the cost of FT. Now, all the other reasons being aside such as adventure, etc., and just comparing cost of FT to house living; how does cost of both compare? I know "it depends" on many factors. My concern is seeing campground parking of $30 $50 a night for .25 worth of power and doing the math; it's expensive! Others have said it's way cheaper to FT than house live; others have said it's more expensive.
Here is just a snippit of how I would envision FT::: Probably a TT since I want to carry motorcycles and as of now, have not see a TH with a livable floor plan (for me). I would probably stay in campgrounds that are not expensive or boondock for extended periods. Maybe move 4 times a year; not real sure. Other RVs: MH seem too expensive and maintenance would be inconvenient and expensive. FW are nice but hard to carry MC ex in a TH; so thinking TT. Yep, I'm a noob but trying to work through some FT issues...don't beat me up too bad here.

Most campgrounds give a monthly rate that is usually much less expensive than 30 days x the daily rate. I'm figuring $300-$400 a month there (waaaay less expensive than my mortgage and property taxes). Like you, I plan to stay in one place for a bit and really explore that area so diesel, while it will be higher than just commuting back and forth to work, can be controlled. Truck/fiver insurance will be more but I'm not anticipating MUCH more than my house.
Unless you plan to move every day (more diesel), stay in high end resort-type campgrounds (more $$), eat out every night (don't do that at home), and other stuff, I don't see why you would spend any more on the road than you do at home if you take into consideration mortgage/rent, taxes, insurances, trash, electric, heat, sewer, water, etc. Plus, if you plan on boondocking a bit, it's even less expensive.
Why don't you get a fiver with the toy house in the rear. Titanium has a nice one (just one of many out there). www.glendalerv.com Check out the 36E41MPRV.
