Only you know what your budget is and what you will be able to handle. If you feel that you may have a shortage during a month, you could always volunteer at a park to help out expense. There are many state & federal parks that are always looking for help. What's nice about these parks you usually don't have to "commit" to long period of time. You can find these places through workampers news or just visiting a state and/or federal park near where you are at. Usually the rangers are very helpful in letting you know where help maybe needed for a short time of period.

Brian and I have been full timing since 2000 (and we yet have to reach our 50th birthday). We don't live high and mighty, and we don't get to go out as much as some of our friends, but we still wouldn't change a thing about our lifestyle. We just tell people that we are touring the U.S. at a turtle's pace. We are hoping that in a few years, we will be able to put our 5th wheel in storage and buy a truck camper and go a little faster with our site seeing accross America. Yes, we will have to give up some of the "luxury" that we do have, such as our satelitte, WI-FI just to name a few.

One more thing, if you keep up the maintenance of both your vehicle and rig, less likely you will spend more on repairs....and save money in the long run.
Eat healthy, and you may spend less in doctor bills! Good Luck and have lots of fun and make lots of new memories!!!

Well here we are 5 months into our trip and in Miami. Over 5,500 miles and have learned that budgets are nice but reality rules! We have been able to keep up with evening things out. Fuel drops, Campsite increase in costs, some sites have offered incentives though. Couple of emergency trips to vets due to little known allergy attacks.

Although we too don't eat out much nor do we do the really big attractions but rather free local events, the costs have been an eye opener. Our monthly costs alone for campsites average $1,200 + with a stay or two at Flying J or Wal Mart along the way. And groceries are another surprise. Cheaper some places and certainly more expensive but after this month we will revisit our total budgets and see where we stand.....

Enjoying the trip though, more than the stopovers!

Happy New Year to all!!

we observed a couple full timing in a class a coach where they went to yard sales then flea markets searching for deals and small items to establish and inventory which they would then take north and west visiting flea markets and making a decent profit selling their inventory. They wanted a class a because of storage and they were real good at finding resalable items to the point that they covered six months expenses and had not failed at any time. They have a good budget system and if they need more funds they go more often to yard sales.
I was amazed at their sucesses and witnessed there approach.Flea markets allow them to stay for the sales and are glad to have them overnite for added security
as long as they stay self contained. They know what sells like a retail business
and both are experts in not buying or wanting junk. It was a real education for me and pass this along for those who might have an interest.

$1200 a month for campground expenses??? Holy cow, unless you have an inert need to be seen at the high end resorts, you can easily cut that expense by 1/2 to 3/4. Even if you only stay one week at each campground, you can cut your campground expense by quite a bit. Stay at state parks, COE campgrounds, city parks.

Fire Dude, you in Louisiana tonight?
