My wife received a call from a guy from DNR and he asked if we have a camper. My wife indicated yes and he reminded her of the alcohol policy and that any alcohol needed to be consumed inside of the camper. We will be camping November 6-8, 2009 at Elk Neck.

Cancelled my site, #22, so it's up for grabs if anyone wants it. Thumbellina is PERFECT for summer/fall camping (when most of the time is spent outside), but as cold as it was last year, I think I'd get claustrophobic stuck inside the camper for an entire trip! LOL! I'm still planning to be there, but will crash on Chris' sofa, like last year, assuming he makes it to the rally.

I wanted to get to Elk Neck that weekend since Alex had no school on Friday but there were no sites last month so I will go two weeks later for a couple of days by myself and then bring Alex and a friend up for the weekend.
I am curious to see how the Rangers will enforce the policy. Sure, it will be easy if folks are toasted outside while lifting their drinks high but what about inside? Knock on the door? Can I check your trailer? Hmmmm? Could be an instant ticket home. However, I do not think it will get that intrusive.

Maybe my 'water/wine pistol' idea from the rally wasn't a bad idea...... I can see it now, all of us walking around with water pistols!!

Hey guys, I guess it's true. I, too, came home to a message from "Mike, with the MD Park System" regarding the alcohol policy & that it can only be consumed in a moho. Considering it was a human voice & not a recorded message, I suspected it was a prank call from one of my MAC buddies. (I'm always getting ribbbed about my ranger visits.) Since others here received the call, I imagine it was legit.

Once again, I do believe DNR is taking this seriously, as should we. However, it is how it will be monitored. DNR probably does feel the legitimate and legal requirement to contact those who have made reservations prior to 11/01 for dates after 11/01. After that it there will be a notification on our online reservations.
No different than when I stop you for speeding. Your 'warning' was on the Speed Limit sign.

Suzanne, I guess you can't go through the check-in station with that open wine bottle in your arm rest this year.
A prank call from one of the MACrs? That would be like alerting the rangers that you were coming. Would we do that?

This is NOT good- not to mention fair/ I guess we should start taking it seriously as Scott mentioned- and start entertaining thoughts of new locations for upcoming rallies. Honestly we were never a drunken rally where it ever bothered anyone-bet it was just a few people per year- cant believe that they changed the rules to this- would have been better to get rid of the trouble instead of everyone else

I realize you have to pee/take the kids to school/sports/scouts/pediatrician...

And yes, you are right. While I am here with you the drug dealers/rapists and murderers are still out there but if they are near here I'll get right on it after I write you your ticket.

We got the call too.
Unfortunately there aren't too many campgrounds open year round.
PA State parks have a no booze rule no matter the unit, but discretion never let me down.
Now if it's like last year, with 10+ standing around a large fire in sub zero wind chill would definitely warrant probably cause, if not complete admission of guilt
