We found this 1963 Tradewind in a backyard in Brandon, FL. The PO had hoped to restore it but found the project to be overwhelming. We brought it home to Cape Coral on a flatbed just in case there were axle or wheel issues. I have to say that others have pioneered the steps involved. Thank goodness for the internet. There were so many things, like hidden rivets, that could have been difficult if we hadn't anticipated them and known how to resolve them.

We've taken a lot of pictures, but this is my first shell-off restoration and, more dauntingly, my first effort to post pictures.

Looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to see the end results. Do you have any idea how long the restoration will take? Are you going to use it in the end or sell it?

Yes, you'll find many Airstream owners who are doing or have done the same things you are undertaking on AirForums.com They are supportive, knowledgeable folks who willingly share their new and vintage Airstream experiences and lessons learned.

We're renovating a 1974 Airstream and don't know how we could have gotten as far as we have without the people on AirForums.

You have quite an adventure ahead of you.

Not sure what you have planned for the flooring but I would suggest the Weyerhauser product, Sturdiwood. It comes in a 26' length so your floor could be one piece and it is water-proof.

A frame off is the best way to do these. Please keep us posted on your progress. I think the hard part is behind you. I hate the demo work anyways. Do you plan to go back stock or finish it with your own floor plain?

We have a vintage section here also.

Is that your wife standing by the car holding her head?

As one who has built airplanes aluminum, and fiberglass just think of it being a lot of small jobs not one BIG job.

A plan is also good to keep you on track.

Very good luck to you and do keep us up to date.
