I was over at Home Depot, the other day and saw something that sparked my interest. In the generator area they had the usual assortment of contractor generators, and also the typical Coleman 1850 watt models that they say are for campsites. Now I know that none of these is really acceptable for powering a camper. However, off on the side I saw the cutest little generator. I looks like a Honda 2000 watt model. What grabbed my attentions was that is said it was an inverter. Looking at the specs. it says that it is capable of 2000 watts continous and 2350 watts surge. It also stated that it was very quiet. did not list any sound level specs., though. The other thing that grabbed my attention was the price. $299. !!!. It was cheaper than the noisey Coleman 1850 watt model. Has any seen or tried this one???.....Pat

I think I may go back and check it out. I checked the on line site and it says that the sound level is 62 db. They also list it for $699.....I need to go and find out if they will sell it for the marked price.....

i called the company that distributes them and they said that the noise level is 60db at idle and 70db at full load.

compare that to Honda/Yamaha gennies with 53db-59db.

the Honeywell will be at least 10x louder than the H/Y gennies.

You can't really say that because you don't know the distance the readings were taken from, or do you?

My home depot had them at $299 also. I saw on the box 59dB but didn't list distance. I was tempted, but decided against it.

i asked her, was that from the standard 21' that most rate their gennies by. she said yes.

I hate comments like that,

it takes a 10db meter gain too sound like double the sound level to the human ear

to say that 10db is 10 times as much is playing with words

technically a 9db gain is 8x the sound pressure on the meter, in the

but the human ear does NOT hear it as 8x as loud

going from 50 to 60, is the same increase numerically as going from 60 to 70

normal speech levels are in the 120db range

the honeywell will be quiet enough for most people and most people won't know its not a HONDA, unless both are sitting and running side by side

yes 53db is quieter than 60db, but unless you have both gennies next to each other, most people will be hard put to tell the difference

Um, your examples are WAY off. Normal conversation is 50-65. 120 is somewhere between a train and a rock concert!! Exposure to 120DB for more than a few minutes can cause hearing loss.

Decibels vs decibels vs distance. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

The bottom line is you get what you pay for.
I got what I paid for when I purchased my Yamaha 3000 @ $1600.00 and 2400 @ $499.00 due to scratches on the case.

What makes me even happier is I can get warranty service right down the street for no-charge for the next 5 years with the Yamaha extended warranty I purchased for a very reasonable cost.

Where will customers take their "Honeywell" generator for service when needed.

And BTW, that "Honeywell" generator never saw a Honeywell manufacturing facility since whoever builds them purchased the rights to use the Honeywell name just Like Coleman residential air-conditioners I sell (Made by York Corporation) and the Amana brand (Made by the Goodman Corporation) and just like Fleetwod and other manufacturers did when they bought the rights to plaster the Coleman name on their tent trailers.
The name means nothing.

And one more thing.....
Coleman has discontinued their line of Powermate generators and no longer offers support for these products so any that you find in a retail store is old stock. This information directly from a Home Depot manager.

yes 120 is like a diesel train horn, pardon my faulty memory.
all the rest is correct.

@javaseuf, would i pay $499 for a $1600 yamaha, yes, in this case you did indeed get what you paid for, some would say you got more than what you paid for.

but i and many other are not going to pay $1600 for that same yamaha, apparently you are the same way, you waited until you could buy it for $499 instead of $1600

and yes Honeywell has been 'LEASING' their name for many products for many years, but i have NOT heard too many complaints about those products, so they must at least be a "little careful" about who they 'LEASE' their name too.
