Hello all,
We just sold our 40 foot HUGE 5th wheel and hubby now says he wants to go back to tent camping. After recovering from the "shock" I'm now in research mode trying to find the best quality family tent. We will have 2 adults, 3 children (8,7,4), and possibly our labrador in the tent. I definatly need SPACE for our stuff. Most camping trips will probably be 2-3 nights max with a few trips possible being 1 week. Looking for a tent that's relatively easy to set up with 2 adults and will keep us warm and dry. We live in eastern WA state so the weather in the summer is pretty dry. The one tent that has really peaked my interest is the "condo" tent made by Pinnacle. Only downside is it's HUGE! 10 x 24!!

Here's the link:

Thanks in advance for your help.

I saw this European tent in the luxury camping thread. I am sure you could get your hands on one with a little effort.
This will be my next tent.

Thanks for the link pudellvr. It looks like a cool tent. Quick question for you...with your 12x17 tent, do you ever have problems finding a spot to erect it at state parks? Thanks!

Most tent pads won't take anything much larger than a 10 X 10. Also, if you plan on regular camping the larger tents aren't designed to be rugged due to pole sizes made for smaller tents. You might want to consider two tents, like a 6-man and a 4-man. You'll always find the right size tent pads, they will be lighter together and MUCH easier to set up than the single "Mega-tent" styles and will last much longer. I use a Sierra Designs Bedouin 6 and Base Camp 4, but there are plenty of high-quality brands out there.

We haven't done state parks. But I have driven through a few looking at sites. At least in the Blue Ridge and SC we would have no problem. I have to have electricity at the site for medical equipment.

Would that be for sleep apnea?

www.cabelas.com seems to have a large supply of tents.

Yes, I have sleep apnea. I know I can put together a battery pack for my gear, but due to the cost have not done it yet. It has been cheaper for us to just get sites with W/E. Nicer for the cook too!

We used to have a small tent that we sat up by our medium tent for storage. The small tent was really a play tent for children but it held a lot of stuff. As your children get older they will want their own tent to sleep in.
We are spending six weeks camping in a tent after years of having a trailer. I am sure that like your wife I will want more space sometimes.

Thanks for the great replies so far. I feel our kiddos are still a little young to be sleeping in another tent by themselves...youngest is only 4. My hubby is intrigued by the 2 tent scenario simply because he thinks we can have 1 tent for sleeping and one for storage, play area, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good quality 6-8 person tent for sleeping?

Thanks!
