By popular request it's back.
This thread will replace the old Activities, Attractions & Dining, in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas from the previous years. It was a very popular topic.
Please share your info & tips on interesting places to go, best places to eat, flea markets, entertainment & other activities in the Rio Grand Valley of Texas.
If possible post location & directions, when open, cost & any other info of interest.
Folks that go to snowbird areas in Arizona & Florida please feel free to start a NEW similar thread for your areas, the info is much appreciated especially by those new to the area.
Anyone with some good info to share, PLEASE POST.
To make this an easier reference I will edit out some of the chit - chat from time to time.

OK Folks! You asked for it so I must comply, first stop must be a Gonzales Burger. They are on Silver St in Donna go south on Salinas to Silver (blinker light) turn right and go about 6 blocks. Reasonable cost! Best Burgers & onion rings that you can find. Open 11 to when ever meat run out.

I CERTAINLY agree with Don P about Gonzales Burgers. Only place I've ever eaten where they grind the meat JUST as it's thrown on the grill.
Another great way to spend a day, if you enjoy nature is the Atacosa Wildlife Refuge. It is a great place for day hiking, and wildlife viewing of many kinds such as Gators, shore birds, deer, coyote, ocelot, road runner, and many others. Take the 12 mile bay view drive along the Lugana Madre and enjoy great views of South Padre from the mainland side.
Take Texas 100 east toward South Padre Island and turn North at Lagona Vista and follow signs. Not sure WHEN they open but closing time is usually 6:00 PM. Guided tram tours are also available.

Sorry, but don't remember the name of the Seafood place on South Padre Island, but it was the greatest. It looked so good that I actually ordered and ate Fish and Chips for the first time since the 50's when we were victims of food posioning from fresh fish from SF, CA. I think it was called Big Al's. It's between the State RV park and the KOA on the right side.

I believe you are referring to Dirty Al's on South Padre Island.

The Don-West Flea Market is one of our favorites, It is a good sized market. It will keep you entertained for 1 1/2 - 4 hours depending on how much you like flea markets.
Some deals here are better than in Mexico. They have lots of RV parts & custom make sun screens & windshield covers. There is a bike shop, a sign shop, key shop, a few antiques, lots of clothing & junk. It is a pretty typical flea market. The vendors are friendly, mostly Caucasian , all spoke English.
They also have live musical entertainment, usually both outside & in the restaurant.
On a hot day the cold tap beer tastes pretty good too. The restaurant. makes a good breakfast & the other food is good too, (not exceptional but good for a flea market.) There are also outside food vendors.
It is open on Wed. Sat. & Sunday & parking is free.
It is on the south side of expressway #83 between Donna & Westlaco. Coming from the west (Mission Area) turn south just before Victoria Palms RV Park on Victoria Road and go about 3 - 4 blocks south to the parking lot. It can also be accessed from Business # 83 and is on business 83 on the North side of the hwy.

DonP,
Bill H. suggests you just get a trolley and go around and shuttle everyone over there.
