Karen, no we walked right in. There is tons of seating inside. They also have a lot of employees so that could count for some of the cars. You guys need to try it soon.

Does anyone know where old downtown McAllen is located? Was talking to a friend yesterday and they asked If I had been to old downtown McAllen (never heard this before) anyway it is suppose to be off of 10th and Broadway (can't find Broadway on a map) . It is a quaint old type part of town with lots of specialty shops, like one for bedspreads, one for flowers, and so on. Would love to walk around this part of town. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

In McAllen from Expwy 83 go N on 10th Street to Business 83. On Business 83 go west abt 3 blocks to Broadway. Broadway is a one way street going south. Turn South on Broadway go about 3 blocks and find a parking spot. Most shops are on Broadway & Main Street, more on Main Street which is 1 block west of Broadway and a one way going North. There is a 4 - 8 block area that is interesting. Please report your findings here after you explore the area.

Thanks Ron, I printed off the directions, now I can find it. May not get a chance to explore until after i return from my son's house which will be around the 16th. But when I do will let you know what I find. Am loving exploring this area. When in Harlingen I didn't get up here much. Thanks again

Old downtown McAllen was roughly located from 10th street on the east to 18th street on the west and expressway 83 on the south to Pecan Boulevard on the north. There are shops along Broadway (13th), Main street (14th) and 15th streets. Also, the city has invested quite a bit in an upscale bar and restaurant zone located on 17th street. I have not been there so I can't say what it is like.

Went to old downtown McAllen this morning, just like shopping in Mexico without crossing the border. Spanish, spanish music, Mexicans and all. No peddlers though. It was interesting to say the least. Most of the stores we went into was like going into a cluttered stuffed full, dollar store. It is worth going at least once. If you look long enough you could get some good deals. Didn't find the bed cover store, nor the flower store and didn't have time to shop the jewelry stores. Found there wasn't too much action on Broadway, mostly on Main Street. Would go again with a woman, but not my " doesn't like to shop or look husband". LOL

I know this is hard to believe but I am having trouble finding a good Mexican restaurant in the Alamo, Texas area. I moved over from Harlingen where there was one every three blocks. Thanks.

For a good Mexican Restaurant in the Alamo area try
El Dorado Restaurant

755 Main St, Alamo, TX 78516
Between S 7th Pl and S 8th St
It is on a SE corner off of business 83
We have gone there for several years. We have not been there since April but have never been disappointed.
We used to also stay in the Alamo area.
