GoneRooing & Chuck_S - Thank you both for the tips and the pics. After having to suffer through my DW's hot & cold spells this past weekend while camping, I need to do this mod for my own sanity. The stock unit just doesn't cut it with it's wide tolerances before turning on or off.

The Hunter 42999B should be at several places including Home Depot, Lowes, and WalMart. The Hunter 44260 "should" also work. It's auto-setback and illuminated. Different wiring diagram though. Illumination is missing from the Hunters we all seem to have.
Do a web search for Hunger 42999B and there are dozens of websites touting it's use in campers and RVs. We're very happy. We carry spare batteries!

You're welcome. However, I can't take any credit. The wiring I received, of course, from Les and it's obvious from the similarities with Chuck's picture as to where I got the visual idea for mine.
...You can even tell by my 'gloop' of epoxy
Best of Luck...

I am looking at doing this mod next year as we just bought a used Shamrock 23 foot and we are now focused opn cleaning it up. What is the high low switch for ? What kind of switch do you use ? Are you controlling both A/C and heat ?

Do a search and the link to Les Adams published article on this (as well as the other couple of dozen threads and photos of it). "If you don't do the research you won't know the answers."
This modified thermostat replaces your existing thermostat. If that one contols both heat and AC this one will too. If that one has a High/Low AC fan speed switch this one will too.

I purchased a Hunter 42999, will it work for heat only applications? I have an HTT with roof air but a Dometic furnace. Thanks, no substitute for experience!!! I just did a google search and found my answer yes it will work.

The Hunter (or other stat) will control both heat and A/C assuming the A/C and heat are now controlled from a wall mounted thermostat...
The hi/low switch controls fan speed of A/C only (at least on mine and others done here)... Your only making and braking one (1) wire with the switch (hi fan wire to Hunter terminal "G") so any switch that has a single or even multiple contacts can be used as you'll only use one section of the switch - i,e, SPDT, DPDT, etc...
Your correct - the only "dumb" question is the one that is not asked - that's how we learn
Click on the link in my signature for the original article done in the year 2000... BTW - that same thermostat has now been in 3 trailers and is still going strong ...

GoneRooing you inspired me to do this mod.
My thermostat only controls the heat but actually being able to control it will be great. I wanted the backlite display so I went with the Hunter 44155 for only $25 at wally world.
