I retired from a Property & Casualty Ins. Co. after 23 years. All companies supply their premium and loss data by state to the Insurance Services Office in NY. They then produce the rates by state for all companies. Some states allow ins. cos. to charge less, a few allow them to charge more, all based on the experience of the individual companies. If a company has a better loss ratio than the industry as a whole, they may charge lower rates than other companies in a particular state. They make a profit by either selecting better drivers, paying less on losses, or spending less money to get their business.
Since a couple that have been mentioned here advertise on TV about every 10 minutes, they either have really good underwriters, a really good claims department, or they lose money every year. What do you think?

I have Geico on everything. No other company can touch the rates I am currently getting on the MH. I like to keep all my vehicles insured with the same company.

Use the same as we have with our personal vehicles. Multiple vehicle discount.

I started playing with a few online quote tools for a 2004 Class C I am looking at (< $30k) and they seem to want to use "replacement cost". I can understand that with a house, but for an RV I would be looking for only agreed value - what I paid for the used RV or close to it.

Do some carriers do this or is it a universal no no?

We just use the same Farm Bureau company we have all our other insurance with. We once switched to another company and when we had legitimate claim for the house, it was disallowed. We switched back to Farm Bureau who had always treated us fairly. When our motor home burned, they treated us properly.

Seems most feel their companies do treat them well. All I can say is that for me fair treatment is more important than price alone. Just be sure to consider all factors when making a selection.

I haven't had any bad experiences with my insurance, but I remember some advice I heard on a radio "money" show. Insurance is a very regulated industry. Go with the company offering the best coverage at the best rate. "Insurance companies have the loyalty of a stray dog. If you don't believe it, have a couple of accidents that are your fault." I usually just shop around for the best rates and sometimes, not often, I jump companies just on price alone. Just for what it's worth.

We've had Allstate for our 5th wheels for years; when we got a hole in the roof they paid for the replacement of entire roof, then we later discovered a leak from that same hole had caused rot in the rear. Allstate paid for the back to be removed and wood replaced, plus interior walls. VERY happy with their service and price.

We've had Progressive for past couple of years. It's considerably less expensive than Nationwide, which we previously had. Haven't had a claim, so don't know how their claim service might be. Hope I don't have to find out!

Question: Maybe I missed it or don't know where to look. How do I set up my signature? Also, how can I get the outlines of the US states that states you've visited can be colored in, that show in signature space? Thanks!
