Hey all... Just finished reading this month's issue of Highyway's magazine from the Good Sam Club and got to thinking... There's got to be people like us, from this area that would like to get together and go camping?

We are a couple in, let's say our early 40's and love to camp and meet new people, have fun. We have children that are grown so we're looking for like wise people who have some of the same life style we enjoy... Meeting new people while camping, mostly within 5 hours of our home in the Hampton Roads area of Virgina.

We enjoy NASCAR racing and frequent a few tracks each year and visit our local track in Hampton VA every other weekend when our family is racing there.

We enjoy a good camp fire and having a few beers in the evening while listening to some good country music...

If this sounds good to you and you live in the area, drop us a line and let us know..

Look forward to hearing from you good folks...

Happy Camping!!!

P.S. Our sister-in-law just bought a 2010 Keystone Outback and is looking forward to doing what we do, camping, eating, having a few beers and just getting to know one another...

Happy Trails...

Suggestions:
1. Come up with a name for your group (SEVA Campers, etc)
2. Pick a place and check it out ahead of time for availability and identify the place in your post so folk can make their reservations.
3. Pick a time (weekend or whatever. remember not everyone will be able to come on that time, but if you don't pick a time, everyone will want to have different time and it will get nowhere.)
4. Post in this forum about the rally and let the folk sign up. Give plenty of advanced notice (maybe 6 to 8 weeks) so folk can check schedules etc.

We did this several years ago and it has been fun. Started with just a few, but grew over the years as more and more discovered the rallies and started to attend. We now have 4 per year Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer.

Look at page 1 of Rallies,Shows and gatherings. There is a Mid Atlantic Group and it looks like this group is from Md and Va maybe a place to get hooked up with as a start.

Yup, just got back from Elk Neck State Park in North East, MD. What started approx. 3 years ago, with a group of Hybrid Travel Trailer owners, has now expanded to all classes of RVs and great people! We kind of call ourselves the Mid-Atlantic Group, but we have people from all over VA, MD, DE, NJ, PA and NY!!!

Just pick a place and advertise and people will join you! Have fun!

we belong to a motorhome club called the traveling terrapins here in maryland and with our group getting older and people retiring from the rv scene its getting harder to aquire new members as not too many are getting new motorhomes.

We're in our 5th year as The Ohio Rally Group. We have applied the KISS(Keep it simple) principle and it has worked well for us. There are no officers, dues, wagonmasters or rules as to what kind or RV's are required. We don't meet somewhere and caravan to the CG.(as the article in Highways talks about. Everyone just meets at the CG) We have one meeting a year. Generally at the October rally to set most of the schedule for the following year. We plan one rally a month from May through October plus get togethers(sans the RV's) for a RV show in Jan, Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. There are smaller get togethers where someone will pipe up on the forum between rallies and say they're going camping somewhere and would anyone like to join them. It generally works out that a few can go. Our largest rally is the August outing where we go canoeing. Some like to have a water battle while others just want a relaxing trip down the river. We will have about 35 to 40 rigs at this rally. Our normal numbers are between 15 and 25.

As was stated earlier, go scout out a place. Don't count on their website being accurate. Look for things like big rig accessibility, what kind of hook ups, how close are the hook ups to the sites, how level are the sites, are they paved, gravel, grass. Is there a pavilion you can use if the weather is bad. How flexible are the CG owners to changes. Set a date. You won't satisfy everyone. That's one reason we plan the dates for our major outings so far in advance. It gives them plenty of time to arrange their schedule.

Let everyone make their own reservations. It's less hassle. When you set this up with the CG give them the name of your group, block out a section of sites you want the group to be in and have everyone make their reservations saying that they want sites with the group. Maybe plan a potluck one night. Now would be a great time to find a place and maybe set it up for spring. I don't know what your winters are like but you'd probably be safe with April or May. If you want to have more than one outing a year, let others "host" a rally. They can do the leg work and be in charge of the activities.

You can see some of the rallies we've had and some pictures at our website http://www.ohiorally.com/. You are more than welcome to contact me if you have any questions. There's lots more I could add.

Take the ball and run with it. It'll be fun.

Mark - We are from Southern MD (actually just south of DC) which puts us about 2 hours north of Richmond VA area. We travel through that way often as we take a trip south. Additionally, we make the Richmond Spring and Fall nascar races. We are planning on joining up with the Mid Atlantic group this coming spring at the Spring Gulch Resort gathering in PA. I am looking forward to meeting this group.

We also like to sit around the fire and get to know one another over a few beers or glasses of wine. Let us know where you will be and we would try and meet up with you.

I forgot to post that we were going to the Martinsville race a week back, spent the whole week and had a great time!

Our next trip takes us to Key West leaving VA on Christmas Day and Staying in Key West until the day after New Years, don't know if anyone is interested in meeting up with us (we're traveling down with 2 other couples) staying at Boyd's of Key West, which we've done for the past 4 years and have one heck of a time...

We're also keeping in mind our trip back to Martinsville for next year in the spring where we have quite a group of great people that camp with us and would love to see more join us...

We'll be headed to Hunting Island for the week after Christmas..headed back after New Years...did Key West a few years back...really enjoyed it...one of these days we'll get back down there.
Will make a point of checking the post beginning of the year when the race season starts up again...
I have checked the post for the mid-atantic group also... sounds like a great time....maybe we will check into that.
