Our baby is now 14 months old, we started taking her "camping" (it was in a cabin) when she was 3 months old and then we went tent camping when she was 7 months. We've been tent camping with her for a total of 4 times and she's enjoyed every trip. We also take a pack-n-play with a mesh net that goes on top to keep the bugs out. Next trip is set for mid October!

We started camping with ours at 2 weeks of age. Nursing them made camping easy, I suppose it could get a tad more diffucult if you're formula feeding. At that age, they still slept in bed with me, until they were moved to a Travel Lite version of the Graco Pack 'n Play. It is much smaller than a normal pack n play, so it can fit in the bedroom of the fiver. That way you don't have to leave the bedroom to take care of the baby, and the baby can sleep without anyone having to tiptoe around. Bring a CD player and play classical music or white noise to drown out outside noises, too. I always had a second set of everything - diapers, wipes, rash ointment, clothing, etc. in the camper, that never left the camper. That way I couldn't forget anything at home.

When they got older, we got a Superyard XT to put outside for them to play in. Placed it on the grass, or carpet, or outdoor carpet. And DEFINITELY put up a babygate or something inside your camper door, so they can't fall out when the door gets opened once they become mobile - even just crawling. Also buy a screendoor guard for the camper door if you're door doesn't already have one. Little hands pushing on the screen can make it come out completely. It's a bugger to put back in. We even reinforced ours with 1/2" hardware cloth, just to be sure to keep little fingers out. We get compliments on it every time we camp, from parents whose kids have ruined their screens...

We almost didn't. We were camping a mere 10 hours before DS #3 was born. Cut that one a little close. But we were right across the street from the hospital on the Air Force Base, so we weren't worried.

Pack & Plays are great. My kid loves to camp. Been taking her since she was a couple of months old.

gkchevy--

I was nervous too. We have a 2 year old and an almost 1 year old. But it was great. Sleep was "eh" on the first night, but that's to be expected. If you're doing formula, take the bottled water and bottle brush (and plenty of bottles). Pack-n-play if they're sleeping together or 2 Graco Travel Lites (smaller pack-n-play) if they'll sleep separately. Some may think it's overkill, but I'd take something to keep them in while you and Mom are setting up. Sometimes you just need two people...so, exersaucer, jumper, travel sized swing? Check out Craigslist for some secondhand stuff for the camper.

And TWINS????? CONGRATS x TWO Dad!!! What a wonderful ride it'll be!! Hope everyone in your house is SLEEPIN soon! ;-)

With our first we took her within a couple months, when mom felt better. With the second and third we waited until everyone would sleep the night. This is because all in our house are light sleepers, so when the infant wakes up, EVERYONE wakes up. It could be hours before everone was back to sleep. Our youngest started sleeping through the night at about 4 months, so that is when we started camping again. That said, we just spent a week in the eastern sierras, and our 10mo old began cutting more teeth. She woke up screaming every night, medicine or no. About half those nights she screamed loud enough to give our son night terrors, and then they fed off each other for an hour and a half. So sleep was in short supply. We still had a great time A bad day camping is better than a good day at work!
