I second Uwharrie.
Here's another link to check out.

Something I have done is camp on farm land, with permission of course, I know there's plenty of that near Fayetteville. Ask around @ work, or church, or your kids ball team parents, someone you know has some nice land you can boondock on.

Great idea, I will definetly check around. There is a lot of great farmland around, and certainly some great areas/properties. I will do some checking. I am a firm believer that you leave it better than you found it, and even take out more trash than you brought in by doing a curtesy pickup of the area. I will let you know how it goes. If you know of any let me go.

JH,
If you find some places, let me know. Some of the places we enjoy are Jordan lake recreation area, they have sites w/ and wo/ hookups. I've seen some areas along the Blue ridge Parkway, but never camped in. We also go out to the outer banks, but again, these are nice pay alot type places. We are very limited I feel in the options we have. We should get together and buy some farm land that's not being used anymore. There are some great streaches of fields and woods I've seen along interstate 40 and 95, especially down east that would make for some nice camping! I also want to try out Uwharrie, but I've heard it gets crowded with 4X4's ORV's and you can't ride your unlicensed four wheeler down the FS (forest service) roads anymore that gets you from the campgrounds to the trails.
