If chipping you should add an exhaust temperature gauge.

2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. I would suggest PPE for the average Duramax owner. EFI Live is the best all out performance. Just don't use anything from Edge, they are death to the ALlison. You have to remember that tuning the transmission to handle the extra power is just as important as tuning the engine for more power.

I use Hypertech, as does my buddy with an 04 Duramax (same engine version as your 2002). We both pull RVs through the Canadian Rockies, and have no EGT gauge (a requirement for other tuners). No issues at all with trans or engine on either truck. I run mine in the middle setting (out of 3), he uses the first (lowest) setting on his truck.

I highly recommend Hypertech. Not the most powerful out there, but the safest.

I think it depends on your long term plans for mods. If you are eventually going to EGR block, fingerstick it, PVC reroute, 4 or 5" exhaust, larger intercooler, I would go with EFI. If you are looking to just add a few HP without any other mods, I would go with any of the others mentioned. There are some great mods for the LLY out there. Since there isn't any info. on your TV in your sig, the first mod on my list would be the air intake mod, you will see cooler temps and I would do it before I put a programmer on it.

I used bully dog and quadzilla. Both didn't work well and caused a lot of problems. I would advise to talk to diesel mechanics and others before plunking down a buck. I was glad to be rid of the stuff and sorry I wasted my money. It's a long story and all I can say is check the price on a rebuilt motor or tranny if your foot is a little heavy. I also went with the four inch exhaust which is a good thing but expensive and is a hell of a lot more noisy. I regret doing it every time I come to a hill and shift down. I wear hearing aids and it magnifies the roar.
