What does Spartan say?

And ride height valve mounting, brand or model is not relevant.

They only take the "input" from the rod and translate that to ride height. The ride height is normally from some point on the chassis to some point on the axle or ground.

Actually the particular HCV is important as to how much volume of air is released and rate of inflation . Not all HCV brands are equal. Install only one new HCV in a two HCV front axle system , the OEM HCV is an instant release and the OEM replacement may have a delay or operate at 65 psi or 70 psi. Your ride is compromised. So either find the duplicate replacement or repalce in matched pair ( or as needed to operate the suspension.

Wolf that is correct. Point to point . The HCVes are installed , this is not the first time I've worked on air suspensions . But one still needs to set the netural point which is the ride height which is a key factor in driveabiltiy and the wear factors. The reference to the HCV linkage is only that someone sent me his information, I know I can not use that.

The factory ride height dimension is critical and has a dimensional tolerance of plus or minus 1/8" inch. The information that I've received from fellow RVers varies from 6.60 inches to 10.75 inches at the same point to point (top of air spring bag mount to top of axle. Other point to point dimensions were 15.5 to 16.125 ( shoch mount bots centerline to centerline.

I've talked to and emailed the factory parts & service depart. with no success ( Well the service folks sent me a copy of the Spartan chassis Owners Manual for a 1996 model , with a side note saying that the information I seek is not in the owners manual , also the manual they sent was for a 1996 M/Y) , I have my original Spartan Chassis owners Manual anyways.

An area of confusion that comes up is the different Spartan chassis model for 1997 ( and other years); mountain master , mountain master 1, mountain master 2242, IC , IC 2242, Highlander, K2, K2 2242, ect. Each is slightly different obviously and apparently there is diversity in the point to point locations upon which the ride height dimensions are based . Also include the variations in the actual dimension itself.

No American and Spartan have been of no real help. Most often reply was to refernce my Spartan Chassis Service manual. Originally when I called Spartan and asked for the replacement HCV for my chassis ( last 6 numbers of the VIN) ,they sent me the new version of Ridewell's EXTREME -AIR HCV universal kit. Then when I received what was not the Ridewell OEM HCV ( #1054008), Spartan Parts said it was a universal HCV that Ridewell had suggested I use. OK but still no ride height dimension to set the HCV neutral point of the HCV. ( I sent back the parts and Spartan accepted the parts back and paid the shipping both ways, which was a nice jesture).

I've been searching for used chassis manuals thru tech book shops , online, and even from the Spartan chassis club. Nope not available. I've talked to American / Fleetwood dealerships in Riverside and Tucson. I called to Florida Spartan assembly plant and the customer service person siad they would find the answer and get back to me . Yes they did call to say that they don't use that HCV part any longer.

I am now going to RV parks looking for an American Tradition , like mine that I can get information from, but most all RVer's have gone south as I am 4300' elevation in the Deschutes national Forest.

Howdy 'All

Happy to report that the search for the correct ride height dimensions and point to point locations have been established for my 1997 Spartan IC 2242 (this applies to the Mountain Master w/Eaton I beam axle as well).

Front dimension is 10.25 plus or minus .062 and in relationship to the final adjustment of the HCV linkage. This is measured from the bottom of the double stacked frame rail to the top of the I beam axle pad ( this pad is a machined flat mounting surface).

The rear dimension is 8.50 plus or minus .062 and in relationship to the final adjustment of the HCV linkage. This dimension is established from the bottom of the double stacked frame rail to the centerline of the differential axle(s). The differential housing is jointed together in two parts by a weld . This weld line can be used to as a measurement point for convenience).

Note : resource is the Spartan Chassis Asembly document 11/1997

Thanks to all that contributed to my search for the truth.. dave
