GadgetGuy has the right idea. Just be happy, don't worry about money! Think of the money you will save on snow tires!

Lot's of people love to take their yearly trips. $2000.00 and upwards or past $4000.00 for maybe 2 to 3 weeks length of time. We snowbird for 5 months and it costs us about $950. +elec. for a spot. In fuel I'd say about a grand. So for $2,000.00 above what we are already paying for our summer home for our 5 months snowbirding I'd say we are ahead of them. Not to mention the point that at Xmas we're by or in the pool drinking our Pina Coladas and thinking about our northern friends with their shovels and snow blowers.

Safe Travels,
John

I'm new to the forum and a fairly new RVer. Great information.

I hope to start snowbirding for real in about 3 years. in the meantime I plan to do as many 1-2 week trips as I can. Just got back to VA from drifting around FL for 12 days. Cost about $1500 total, staying in state parks 6 nights. Camping fee was only $180 of that. About $330 of it was food and I'd spend that anyway.

So I figure it's $990 to get there and back, plus whatever it costs to stay. Quick check online showed a lot of RV parks for less than $800 per month. I calculate 3 months of sun for under $3500. I didn't factor in any savings while being away.

Thanks,
roadhousecharley

Ouch you still got a bit to learn. 12 days $1500.00! Ouch.

No doubt. Please pass on any tips.

$180 at various FL state parks
$644 in gas
$344 in food (I eat a lot)
$149 in maintenance (1 tire & wheel for tow dolly and still buying little stuff for the RV)
$143 in misc entertainment and other expenses

The real number is $1460. Could have cut the food bill in half easily and all of the misc expense was elective. The RV gets worse mileage in the rain and I could have slowed down a bit, but not much. Maybe shave $75 of the gas if it wasn't raining on the way back and I dropped it from 62 to 55 mph.

Maybe I've got it all wrong, but a lot of my expense is getting back and forth. Gotta eat no matter where I am so that should wash out. Looking for a good place to stay that doesn't cost much.

You can get to 550 a month without even looking. We will be in Ocala area for 3 months if we sit still.

It cost money to move around is part of your issue. Also you need to determine if you're on vacation or snowbirding. They are two different things.

When you're on vacation you're doing things you wouldn't do normally which cost money. When you're snowbirding you're doing every day things, but not freezing your behind off while doing them.

So the question is what expenses did you incur that are different from your everyday routine.
