The dealer has my truck and can't wait to see what they say. I did ask about a buy back and my CSR is looking into it for me.

There are lemon laws which cover repeated repairs. Check for them in your state.
I liked the Fords prior to 2002. Once they dropped the International engine I started hearing from friends about major problems they were having. I ended up with a Chevy 3500 Dura / Allison and I am totally amazed at the difference in towing power and the way the transmission shifts. I've had Fords, Dodges, and others and so far I like the Chevy best.
I have even read that there are some problems with the Fords where the entire body has to be removed from the frame to fix it. And even with a warranty it's still very inconvenient to be without the truck.

I doubt you will be able to rent a pickup truck to pull your fiver with or even one with a fifth wheel hitch in it. You might be able to rent a medium duty truck with a hitch already in it. Better yet, you might want to buy a medium duty truck. Find a big truck dealer who will let you take the truck on a test drive for the weekend! YEAH!!!

I had a 2005 6.0 and lost the turbo - it didn't strand me, but the cel came on and when I got it to the dealer they told me turbo.
Mid last year, I traded it in on an 08 with 6.4, and never looked back.
Don't kid yourself, they Chevy dosen't compare, they put a lot of hp in a light truck, not something I'd tow with - but that is just MHO.
If you think you might want to trade it, look at the new Fords, the only thing that sucks is the mileage, but everything else is nicer.

Albizia,
What dealer did you take your truck to? I have had 2 Super Duty Fords, my current is an F450 with ZERO problems. My previous TV F250 also had zero problems.
However, I know people who have had problems with pre 2006 Super Duty trucks. Both (yes two) have had them sent back as Lemon Rejects and they both where compensated in full. I can put you in contact with them if you wish (they are also in OC).
As for a new truck, I am all Ford, have 11 at our office, wife has one, brother, friends etc.. Find a good dealer and they will take care of you. My suggestion is go to Villa Ford speak with Tim in service, he has always treated me good.
By the way my brother is letting his 08 F450 go because he does not need it as a TV any longer (bought a class C). Only 20k miles with Nav., and tv's for the kids.
The new Fords have 100k powertrain and engine warranties.

FYI, they haven't dropped International yet, the 2011 Super Duty will have the first Ford made (non International) PowerStroke Diesel Engine.
Concerning the 6.0 the priority is to get a properly trained Tech, most do not understand the 6.0 and cause more problems than they fix. Always ask your 6.0 Tech what causes the EGR coolers to fail (most commonly replaced part), if he doesn't tell you the Oil Cooler getting clogged causes it, find a new Tech.
To solve this issue install a Coolant Bypass Filter system (approx $125 and 30 minutes to install) and you will most likely not have any more Oil Cooler and/or EGR Cooler issues. If you are out of warranty do an EGR delete kit and it will be even better.
Concerning Tunes, install ARP head studs and the HG issues will be a thing of the past.
My 05 has 95K of hard miles on it, is used 95% of the time time towing my WW and runs strong all day long (knocks on wood). Prior to me buying it the previous owner's Dealer was replacing the EGR cooler every 6 months. WHen I took it to my Tech he literally started laughing out loud and said he would take care of the problem and make my 6.0 completely reliable. With his experiance he justified over $8K worth of Warrranty Upgrades/Updates with Ford and installed my ARP head studs for free when doing all the other updates. So far he has been correct and mine is rock solid dependable and is used hard pulling my WW on steep roads routinely (knocking on wood again :-).
Concerning Warranty, not sure what year the 100K Factory Diesel Powertrain Warranty started, but my 05 has it. Luckily Ford gave me a 200K Diesel Warranty on top of that (long story regarding an F-150 I used to have) so I am good to go for a while even if I do have problems.

History as followes. I have a Banks 6 gun kit with everything. I did the head studs back @ 40K ARPs with a turbo at that time. No problems for a long time. Turbo pipe started blowing off all the time around 70K. Replaced Turbo & EGR around 80K. Now new turbo seized back to dealer. This was the first time my TV left me stranded. Dumping Fuel and flames out the pipe. I was able to drive for a while before it gave out. My friend towed me to Jawbone from Cal City on Thursday one peice at a time, then Sunday I called AAA to come home. The 5er got droped off @ home and the truck to Sunset Ford.
Tell me more about the EGR Delete kit. Also what is the story and how are the new motors for all big Three.
Here is a pic that my buddy took of the flames from his phone.

Here is a pic of the tow guy hooking me up Sunday.

I have heard of more issues of people running the Banks stuff on the 6.0 than any other tuner. Their stuff tends to be more performance oriented instead of heavy towing. If you are going to tow heavy all the time I would recommend towing stock, or with a proven Heavy Tow Tune from Spartan or Innovative.
Search Google for "ford 6.0l egr delete kit" and you will get plenty of info on the EGR delete.

Since California has started smog checking diesels, a full EGR delete will probably cause your truck to fail the visual portion of the test. Using a tune to cancel operation of the EGR valve may cause a fail code they'll find when they scan your OBD II port.
