We take our 2 cats camping with us and we love it. They love it too. I made them a little bathroom area under one of the beds - took off the door and hung a curtain...

My question is - how to keep the litter granules from tracking all over?
They drive me nuts and I have to vacuum all the time - which is a real problem when we are dry camping.

TIA for any and all suggestions!

Nice Setup and your lucky I could never get our two cats to go into a space like that to use the litter box. We had to put ours in the bathroom and we sweep after every use with a old fashion broom.

I have three cats. I've tried several different mats made especially for this and none seems to work totally. So far, the best I've found is a rubber mat that looks like there are twisted rubber strings stuck all over it. The trays and rugs made for this haven't worked as well. Then I get the broom, or dustbuster.

Another thought that might work is a small carpet sweeper instead of a vacuum. Also, we have a small crumb picker-upper that we got from Fuller Brush years ago and it picks up crumbs really well from the table, you just roll it along. I'll bet it would work on sand in the carpet. Otherwise use a 12v hand vac. I don't know the answer for the litter mat, our box is in the shower and luckily it's vinyl outside the stall. I sure don't like litter granules on our bed, though, which is what sometimes happens!

When Spike traveled with us, his box was in the shower and on an astroturf mat. It cleaned up pretty good and he didn't track anything into the hallway. Had to clean the mat once a day but didn't have to vacumm very often.

This is great - I love the ideas! I used to keep the litter box in the shower too - but then it was such a hassle to move it that we hardly used the shower - had to go to the one at the campground. One of the things we love about our camper is the shower.

The litter box at home is one of those enclosed roll-over things - so their bathroom in the camper is like an auditorium in comparison.

We also utilize the floor of the shower for the litter box and cat food. We place a rug that fits exactly on the shower floor and most of the excess litter tends to end up there. We do occasionally find some on the dash where she likes to snooze, but for the most part it is contained in the shower. Agree it's kind of a pain to move when we use the shower, but our particular floor plan leaves little choice.

I bought a plastic tub with lid from WalMart. I cut a hole in the top leaving a 1 1/2 inch lip all the way around. Now when the cat gets to slinging litter the litter hits the side goes up, hits the lip on the cut out top and falls back into the bottom of the tub. Now the only thing left is the little bit that sticks on his paws which is very little. I am working on a 1 inch deep pan with a screen covering that would allow that to rub off to the pan and be recycled. Boring is the inventor of thousands of things on a daily basis.

Try feline pine instead of regular litter.
My wife switched to this after me complaining about litter all over the place. It leaves much less of a mess, and doesn't track around nearly as bad. Covers smell as well as any litter.

Best thing I've ever found for trapping litter is those fake grass type mats from Wallyworld.
