Has anyone tried the firestone air bags that go into the front springs of an E-450?

I have them in the back and can get quite a bit of lift out of them.

I always need to use blocks or jacks in the front, never in the back.

Wondered if by installing air bags in the front, if I could get enough lift to do any good.

would cost a lot less than HWH and also weigh less. No gound clearance issues either.

Sounds like a good idea, I don't know how much lift you'd get either but even if you got a couple of inches it would be better than jockeying back and forth and getting in and out of the motorhome fussing with an inch or two of boards for 10 minutes trying to get it perfect. Or get it close with boards with way out of level spots and fine tune it with bags. Dang, now I have another project! Combined with this wireless compressor it would be pretty cool.

Watch this video,it looks like he's getting 3-4" of lift but I don't know if the capacity would lift a MH front end or if they use the same bags.

mikeyw,

I dont think all airbags are designed to provide excessive lift.

What Im familiar with dont really lift, but provide additional support. When deflated they allow all the normal compression. When inflated, they inflate back to normal or a bit more and allow compression attempting to maintain the same height.

You might verify what you consider is designed for height.

The style in the video are mostly for show and I believe completely replace your existing spring suspension. Those are different than helper airbags.

Just looked at your sig/rig. Another problem is when you extend suspension you remove up-travel capabilities and may cause topping-out which may be undesirable - unless you intend to only use them while parked/camping.

Off topic.

Inside the front coils, the air springs serve more to stiffen the springs than lift. The will not lift any higher than the spring length on a normal rebound, maybe an inch or two.

I get 3-4 inches of lift at the rear bumper, from my rear air springs, but that represents only 1 1/2 to 2 inches at the spring mount.
