I just bought a used 2005 Seneca, and the backup camera and monitor are worthless. The picture quality is so poor that I cannot tell what is behind me. Did anyone else have this problem, and how did you fix it?

I have a Jayco Grayhawk with the built in camera. The picture is B/W, which is ok. My regular vehicles have color monitors, so the picture is very clear and acurate. So comparing the B/M to color there is a major difference. I am getting used to the B/W picture, but it is defiantly not as clear. I also have the speaker to listen to my DW giving directions as I back in, which I turn off while driving so I do not hear road noise which would be distracting. So if you have B/W, it will take time to get used to it. If I ever buy a new RV, I will make sure it has a color monitor, and it is not so bad that I would go through the expense of having the present one switched.
See you on the road!

Could be as simple as moisture in the connection coming from the camera or in the lense to either a bad camera or monitor.

The OEM setup allows the camera to view through a dirty, cloudy piece of plastic.
I took my camera out from behind the plastic. Went to the hardware store and bought a blank metal light switch cover. Drill a hole for the wire and grommet. Install the metal blank onto the original plastic cover, secured the camera to the metal blank and now the picture is crystal clear. The camera is made for outdoor use so having it mounted externally is no problem plus this gives you the ability to adjust it to the view you desire. I occasionally take a cloth and wipe the camera lens.
With the trip to the hardware store all in all took about 30 minutes.

Jayco must have had problems. My 08 has the camera mounted openly on the back of the unit, just like your modification

My camera is also mounted openly and I have no problems at all with it. I find the B/W picture very clear until the camera gets dirty and then I climb a couple of steps on the ladder and clean it.

Thank you, dcowley ,for the suggested fix. I will try that first. I currently have a color backup camera with monitor, and am spoiled. It even has night vision. If your fix does not work, I may try to install this same combo

Besides the lousy picture, the monitor is located on the back of the sun visor. My last MH it was mounted in a coupala above the mirrior. I would like to move the monitor but can't find the coupala. Anybody know where to get one of these?

Hey A/C,
I notice you have a 2006 Seneca. On the 2007 Senecas the monitor is mounted in a coupala. Perhaps Jayco or the camera manufacturer (I believe it is Voyager) could provide you with one. The '06 and '07 cabs can't be very different.
