Just about to pull the trigger on the above trailer. Was reviewing some web info and came upon a reference about the trailers sagging or the wheels comming to close to the wheel wells. One of the posts stated that Jayco was sending them a new set of Axels and the other said that Dexter knew about a bushing problem. Since this is a 2008 and no manufacturer warranty, I just want to know of any issues ahead of time. Anyone have any info on this subject.

Thanks

I have the same trailer bought it new. Dexter requires 3in. of clearance above the tires.Mine had 11/2 in.and poor ground clearance.Jayco replaced the complete axel assy.It is now a much better trailer.I would check tire clearance and not buy if not correct.I have 20,000 miles on my 08 do not know of any bushing problems.Clearance problem was common and did not get corrected unless you complained.Send personal message if you want more info.

Larryn is correct about the Dexter Axles. Your camper should have on or about 3" from the top of the wheel to the top of wheel well. Dexter would most likely replace the axles if the ones on the camper you plan to buy are not within clearance. You, however, might have to pay the labor to have them replaced. Talk to your dealer or have them call Jayco and find out. Jayco makes an excellent product, we have owned three.

Thanks guys;

I placed a deposite on the trailer after contacting Jayco & Dexter and being informed of no known problems in this area except for Jayco stating that some units went out without a certain bracket. My dealer checked and the brackets were installed. This 3" spacing is new info for me and I have asked my dealer to check it out. I remember sticking my hand in the wheel and think I had atleast 3". I guess I am somewhat lucky that this trailer is on consignment so is still in the first owners name and has about 6 weeks of warranty remaining. Just when we were going to ink the deal my wife noticed a small (grapefruit) size delamination on the slideout wall, I discovered another on the opposite side. My dealer called Jayco and they agreed to take care of it under warranty. Was impressed by all this happening so quickly. I sent an e-mail to my sales guys to check the 3" clearance. This is my first go at a trailer so thanks much for the help & any additional info you can provide

I noticed the post concerning axle clearance and I checked the clearance on my 2008 Jay Feather LGT 25F and found it to be only 1 and a half inches. This was with the trailer absolutely empty and free from all water as I had just blown out all the lines for winterization after opening the low drain points and emptying the hot water heater. Black water was cleared yesterday after camping 4 days.

I called the dealer from whom I bought it new in January of this year and was told that pictures would have to be sent to Jayco. I called Jayco and could not get a straight answer as to how long it would take to get repaired if they accepted the repair under warranty. It would depend on their stock level or the supplier's level of stock and the dealer's shop work load. I pressed them and at least got a committment the approval/denial process would occur within a week of receiving pictures. I thought this answer was reasonable.

I took my trailer back to the dealer this PM for picture taking of the clearance, the chrome rims that were replaced previously and rusting again as well as a picture of the seperating overhead cabinet door.

The dealer said they never new how Jayco was going to react to a claim as they said they submitted another claim like this and was told by Jayco that's the way they are built and that there was no warrantable issue??

I told the dealer this was a safety issue as premature wear could cause a blowout so if it was denied by Jayco I wanted a copy of their written denial.

I am now waiting to see how Jayco handles this so I will post again when I know their response.

My dealer just sent me an e-mail stating that my clearance on the door side was 2 1/4" empty. They are contacting Jayco to see what they say.

I just received this from my dealer. At least I have 2 1/4". I placed a call to Dexter and left a msg. I guess that is the real question. If Dexter has a spec, Jayco needs to meet that spec. Now if can we get Dexter to own up to it if it really is a spec. Jayco must purchase many axel sets. If someone who posted the 3" spec could tell us where he got it, that would be helpful.

The good news here is I cannot find any real bad news on this subject pertaining to the 25f. Hope my extended warrany would cover any future issues.

From my dealer:
"have spoken with my service manager “Dave Leiflieght”. He has been in contact with Jayco and they indicate that there is enough clearance in between the tires and wheel wells. Jayco also indicates that there are no recalls or Technical Service Bulletins pending.

Please call 800-398-5251 if you have specific questions about this problem."

I had clearance issues with my 29D just under an inch. I called Jayco and they sent my dealer new axles without the dealer even needing to see it or take pictures. Axles arrived within a week and it was installed in one day. I was told the min. spec was 2.5 inches from dexter. I now have 3.5 inches of clearance.

I found this on the Dexter web site:

http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/1080235/f/9-15........20Catalog/Suspension_Dimensions_6-09.pdf

You can see that the wheel well clearance is 3 inches. I am not sure if this is applicable to the axles Jayco uses but it seems reasonable that the equipment is 2 inches wide.

If the static bump clearance (Dexter Spec 2.3 inches) is greater than the wheel well clearance (in my case 1 1/2 inches) the tire will rub the wheel well.

I am still waiting for the dealer/Jayco response on my claim with them.

The 25F used TorFlex Independent Torsion. The Spec is on page 16 of the Dexter applications manual.

seb1899. I sent you a e-mail yesterday with all the details. Check you e-mail inbox on this forum.
