we have a 1982 starcraft 13ft tt. the only bed in there is the table. we have a 11month old baby currently. by our next scheduled trip she will be 1yr and 8 months. she is on the tiny side and probably always will be. so i was wondering if there was any way to add one of those flip down simple bunks in our tt safely? not even sure where it would go at this point, just wondering if anyone has done this?
i just don't like the idea of her being on a cold hard floor and since the actual floor space is minimal it would be impractical to put down a mattress or padding of any type.
any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
our first camper.. it is small but perfect for us newlyweds! i can't figure out how to fit my pic in the sig.. so you will have to look at my profile to see it.

I have to laugh......yesterday, there was someone asking about getting rid of a bunk!!
Because of the age of your RV, I don't think you need to worry about any warranty problems with any conversions you make, as the other poster had.
You should be able to drill holes right through the side of the trailer, and bold a bracket to hold the "bunk". I would consider a small mattress, that you can fold up (maybe some memory foam) and a plywood "bed" that goes from one side of the trailer to the other, placed on some secure shelves that are bolted through the side of the RV.
Make sure you aren't drilling through any electrical lines or plumbing fixtures, and be sure to silicone any outside fittings, to avoid any water damage.
Not knowing how your trailer is laid out, I can't make any other suggestions, as to where to place the bunk, but I'm guessing that there is room somewhere.
You may also want to think about just getting a crib mattress, because I'm guessing that you will want to upgrade the size of the RV by the time your daughter gets about 4' tall.
Good luck, Happy Camping

Is there a cabinet/storage compartment above the table? Growing up we had a 1977 Coachmen Cadet Bunkhouse TT that had a cabinet over the front table. The front panel of this cabinet would flip down and rest on boards on the outside walls to make a double bunk. You could do something similar to gain the needed bed space. Also, be sure to use a bed gate to make sure your child doesn't roll out of the bed.

Yes, it is possible. My father added a fold down bunk over the front bed in their small trailer as soon as the grandkids came along. It is still being used 15 years later. You want something homemade or ready to purchase?

oooh i am soo excited that this could be a possibility. yes we have the cabinets above our table and they are fixed to the trailer. we would love to upgrade, but ya the economy stinks so this is the next thought i had, lol.. and yes probably home made, DH did all the renovations to this tt himself and if fairly handy. the crib mattress or use of a small size memory foam is a great idea. and ya i would def. be using bed rails of some sort, probably hinged with a lock so we can get her in and out easily. i am only 4ft9, i could even sleep on it, LOL,

My father didn't have a window or cabinets to contend with, his bunk design would not allow you access to the cabinets as it flips up against the front wall. So, I am thinking of a roll out canvas sling - like they use to remove the injured from a battlefield - with pole holders on the side walls and heavy duty snaps on the outer edge of the canvas to attach a cargo net which then snaps to the celing to keep the baby from rolling out of the sling. (like a roll up cot without legs) Place it far enough from the ceiling so the baby can sit up without konking her head.
If I thnk of anything else, I will post it.

First, I love your 13' trailer. It looks awesome. I also have a 13' with a bunk over the bed/table. Our bunk is not useable. It is narrow, holds very little weight and is only about 10" from the ceiling. I can't imagine sleeping up there, even if it could hold my weight.
We have a new grandson. I'm planning to use a Pac n Play portable crib. It will take up most of the floor space, but only at night. It can also double as a play-pen for setting up outside of the trailer for those moments you need to set the baby down, briefly. I'm not an advocate of play-pens, but this seems like a reasonable use when at a campsite.
Have fun camping with your new little one!

our pack and play wouldn't fit in our tt lol.. there is literally 3x3 space of open floor the way ours is set up. we loved it this past summer for outside though, worked great.
