The wife says we have to use the RV. So I am asking on here, where would be a good place to go? It has to be somewhat close to Portland/Salem, Oregon, because it would be a leave Thursday night come home Sunday trip.

Any ideas? I have some but I'm looking for others.

So where am I going?

Wish I had your problem - I just love going to the Oregon coast.

Try the area around Yachats. Close to your area but still not too congested. Opps - it's been at least 10 years for me; I hope all that growth hasn't caught up with that area.

Beachside State Park if you need hookups. Tillicum Beach CG for some of the best seaside sites on the west coast.

Go here http://www.portofnewport.com/rv-parks/index.php we stayed there last Sep 08 after the Monaco Rally in Salem. Nice place, great food just about everywhere and we enjoyed walking through all the great shops across from the Camp Ground. There was a little restrurant down the road where you could grb a short order, sit outside, and then watch them steam peoples crab catches.

A friend built a championship caliber golf course w/ a beautiful RV Resort ($35/night, cable tv, telephone, full hook ups - 50 amp) just outside Lebanon, Oregon. Convenience store, full private showers, etc.. I ran the RV side its first year and I highly recommend it.

Lots to see and do in the area, covered bridges, Santiam River is within a couple of miles, Salem or Eugene close by, etc..

Using the criteria you give, why not head down to one of Oregon's wonders, Silver Falls State Park for the week-end. Or maybe head up to Anisworth State Park on the Columbia River Gorge. Then always, there is the Coast.

Southwest of Portland, there is Champoeg State Heritage Park, which is on the banks of the Willamete River. It has a nice campground with some sites having full hook-ups, and some sites elec/water only. Drive time west of I-5 (exit 278) is about 15 minutes, and it is approximately midway between Portland and Salem.

Has anyone ever stayed at Fort Stevens? Which sites are best?
