We have been sitting at the RV parking facility in Columbia, SC for the past few weeks, when we had a power failure (park related). According to our Progressive Power System, it showed a high-voltage error. At the time we lost power the front A/C was running. We turned the A/C off before power was restored and never gave it a second thought. A few mornings later, we decided to run the front heat pump, and when my wife turned it on, the fan came on, but you could hear the compressor trying to start, then stop, then try and start again. We turned it off and switched to gas. I tried the next morning with same result. Later that day I tried the A/C function, and it started the fan, but the compressor came on and immediately cuts out.
Any ideas out there in M/H land?

Probably fried the capacitor on the compressor pump motor. Cheap to buy, fairly easy to change out, so I'd try that first. It'll be a silver can probably mounted on or near the compressor - two wires to disconnect/reconnect (might be three if it also supplies the blower motor), probably push on or screw on fittings. Be sure the power is off when you disconnect/reconnect it. I'd pull the old one out, take it to an AC shop or supplier, get an exact replacement. - Tony

I crawled up on the roof today and pulled the shroud off the AC unit, which, by the way, is an RVP 9000 Heat Pump. Looks like it is the startup capacitor alright. I can see the burned wire. Mine is a black can made by BMI with the following part numbers:
1497-086
092A088B165AC1A
88-108UF165VAC
50/60HZ +65 C
0436HUSA
It also has a small black plug (connected to the red wire) with the words Motor Starter WSX-5ACM.
I put a call into Tiffin to see if they can get me one before I start searching around here. Right now we are in Swansea, SC, so if I decide to look for one here it I would have to drive back into Columbia.

Try Swansea Hardware on 1535 Southbound Rd. 1-803-568 3393 If they are still in business they used to be a full service store to boats and RV's.

Just an update to say that I've fixed my front air. It was the start capacitor, and cost $30 for the part.
