Have a recently purchased MH with an Onan 4000. Have some of the books about service but besides touting the use of Onan oil I can't find out what weight oil to use.

We are in FL and a little cooler weather is near.

Genset has 300 plus hours an meter.

Need input on what weight oil to use.

Open the cover on you Onan it should be printed right on the front left along with the oil filter informaton. Do not put a single weight oil in the generator. Mine (a 5500)uses 15-40 for the best temperature range. I use the Onanmax which you can get from any Onan dealer.

My book says 10-30, an Onan 4000 doesn't have a filter.

My Onan 4000 has an oil filter but it is an Emerald Plus.

Since I never run my generator at temps of 10 degrees or below, I opted for 15W-40 which is recommended by Onan for temps to 100 degrees. Onan's oil chart states to use 10W-30 for temps 0 to 80 degrees.

I'm more likely to run my generator in temps exceeding 80, than temps lower than 10 degrees.
