To hwybnb. If you read my post again you will see that I also said that the autoformer "does NOT make electricity"! Google "Hughes Autoformer" and you will see for yourself how these things work!
Of course they work. They work by stealing power from the grid. They are only needed when the grid is crippled to begin with, and their use only makes it worse for everyone else.

I guess the only way I can convince you is to have you spend as many years as I have doing electrical engineering and design work! But I digress, I'm retired now and would rather spend my time fishing and camping!

I would rather spend my time that way too, but there are 40 years of electrical engineering experience behind my answer. I have shown you my analysis of how the extra power consumption resulting from boosting the transformer output voltage is taken from the grid at the expense of other users. Your turn. Present your engineering analysis showing how it comes from somewhere else.

Autoformer needs to be temporary not hardwired. That is why they have the premade connectors attached. I mounted my booster in the cord compartment. But next to the distribution panel is fine also.

Mine had a J-box between the romex and cord in a small rear compartment where the cord is shoved into for storage. I removed the J-box and added a male connector to the romex and a female outlet on the end of the cord. I can now plug the romex direct to the cord as it was. Or I can plug the romex into the booster and the booster into the cord outlet.

You can make a similar setup behind the distribution panel if that is the best spot in your RV. Either way the booster needs to be able to unplug for it to meet electric code. But don't ask me where in the code as I do not have a book.

Turning anything on takes power and reduces voltage to others. What I run in my RV is my business. Now if the park said if you use a booster I would prefer if you could run your fridge and water heat on propane. Now that would make sense instead of just banning the fix to the inadequate electric supply.

I couldnt agree MORE with the last poster. As stated, I dont use my autoformer often but Ill use it when I deem necessary and to protect my Rig from low voltage situations. Lets try shifting the responsibility of proper receptable power back to the canpground owner and power grid in general. Now, you other two can get back to your pedigree's in electrical engineering but at the end of the day, Ill still use it when I want to! IMHO

I think I got the answers to my questions. I believe that it would be best to mount it at the power panel BUT not permanently. This takes care of the "code & theft" problems. I , like most here, will make my own decision as to when to use it. I also agree "Lets try shifting the responsibility of proper receptacle power back to the campground owner and power grid in general." as Acamping-- stated. I appreciated all the technical responses I got to my technical question & would also ask that the judgmental comments on the use of the autoformer be left for the posting when I ask for your opinion on the when and where to use one. I REALLY think its time to put the wraps on this thread & get back to having fun camping or planing for next camping season. Thanks.

Hope to see you on the road!!!
