We've just returned from a 9,000-mile Amtrak train trip (yes, we travel on planes, trains and autos, as well as our motorhome) and it really reinforces why the motorhome is the ONLY way to travel. Hotel rates are absurd. Most restaurants — even the expensive hotels — overcharge for generic food that comes from the same wholesalers no matter where you are in the country. Onward with motorhomes!

I think that I know what you are talking about. We are going on a 7 day cruise in two weeks (our first time) I just keep thinking that I would be much more excited if we were getting ready for an RV trip instead!

If there's one thing that makes RVing better than any other type of travel, it's sleeping in your own bed every night. Not far behind is the ability to avoid public restrooms.

You may fine the cruise to be a close second to RVing, one great part is unpack once and then pack up to take your clothes home at the end!
we went on our first cruise almost 2 years ago and had a ball, just a 3 day to Mexico but it was great.

I going on a cruise this Friday & I miss getting the RV ready. No stocking up supply's. I really do miss it. But cruising is nice except I need to put on a tie & jacket which I will never carry in my motor home

It's hard to RV in Kenya or Egypt so I'll continue to fly and hotel it

For North American travel - I agree. Except I can fly to Florida in ~7 hours or drive it in 4-5 days. When I retire I'll RV to Florida, until the I'll have to fly....

I love train travel. I do like my privacy and convenience of my own bed and bath though. My dad was a RR worker and we traveled by train often. Even recently, I had some good experiences on Amtrak. Someday, I want to take the trip across Canada by RR. Perhaps we may try that when we visit our home sometime in the next year. We will take the MH part way and take the train from a convenient place.

We love cruising, (10 cruises), it is just a different style of traveling . You do not need a coat & tie on all cruises, try NCL's freestyle cruising, you eat when and where you want and without being assigned a specific table. The food and entertainment is great and it is nice to have your bed turned back when you are ready to retire for the night. I really enjoy all the different ports and excursions available.

We enjoy RVing also, it is nice to be able to get up and go at will.

Cableguy,
I hope you enjoy your cruise. This is the first year in 10 or 12yrs that we won't be cruising. We are newly retired and going to the RGV for the winter. I would rather pack for a cruise any day, as to try to remember to pack everything I will need for the next 3 mos in the MH. It will be a new experience and we are looking forward to it! I do love cruising though.

We love cruising. We traveled the world (15 cruises) until we retired. Now we are seeing the country in our RV. Love RVing too. They both beat Hotels. We just love to travel.

Never did mind packing for either. If you do it enough it becomes routine and easy.
