Often if the inverter fails, the transfer switch will continue to work fine.
The transfer switch just passes through power when you are plugged in.

Fairly straightforward to do actually - I had mine out for a while while I was waiting for a replacement to arrive. I disconnected the 12 volt leads and taped them up (I used an outboard charger to keep the house batteries charged). I mounted a temporary splice box and wired the 120V input to the 120V output. Everything worked fine, but obviously didn't have any 120V AC when not connected to shore power.

It's hard to get a stand alone charger that does as well as the better inverter/charger combos.
Chris what would your recommendation be for a inverter/charger to replace a WFCO 8955PEC converter/charger? I'm considering replacing the 8955 with a better converter/charger but also want to add a 1000watt inverter. My unit is only 6 months old and want to replace the lone 12v w/2 trojan 105s.

To dougrainer, if I leave the inverter installed, and it fails, I'd have 7 outlets that would not function, including the ones my tv's are plugged into. But I like the idea of having the converter as a backup charger.
IF the 120 transfer section of the Inverter failed, then you just open up the 120 wire section and wire nut the Input and output wires together. There are usually just 1 wire in and 1 wire out, but there may be 1 wire in and then 2 wires out and you just connect the Blacks together, the Whites together and then the grounds together. Then plug in the added Converter. Doug

This is a bit off topic so you might want to just start a new thread with more details on trouble or what you need to accomplish.
The WFCO might work better with more battery. It is actually a very good converter if sized correctly and set up correctly. 55 amps is way too big to work right with just one battery. 25 or 35 amp would be better. The two golf batteries might be large enough depending on distance and wire size. 35 or 45 amp would actually be better but put the batteries in and see how it goes. When well discharged you are loking for 13.1 or less volts at the distribution panel to trigger the WFCO into boost mode.
Otherwise if spending money I would recommend a Xantrex XADC-40 or 60.

If when the inverter is installed, twist-lok 30 amp connectors are installed on the input and output leads, it will provide a quick way to disconnect and by-pass the inverter when a problem occurs.

I agree with this but I have a feeling the Iota might be a great option as well. I look at everyting and find nothing wrong with that unit and its worth considering.

I would stick with the Inverter.. I have been sitting there watching TV and suddenly the park, got real dark, as some idiot, driving too fast for conditions in the rain, slid off the road and took out one of those creosote soaked trees with the wires at the top holding them up. (Electric Pole. reference to TV show, Guess the show)
The INverter kept the TV plugging right along
However if you must remove it
The inverter will have either one or two sets of 120 volt wires.. If it has two then one is "input" and one is "output" You work without any 120 volt power on the rig please
Connect the two (In and out) wires together white to white, black to black and bare to bare. The replacement converter (I recommend a Xantrex True-charge XADC or a Progressive Dynamics 9200 series) is also hooked in here via a proper fuse or breaker.. It's that easy.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

I'm hoping the new inverter works. Otherwise, we'll probably have a pro do a replacement or removal. Thank you for all your suggestions, it's always good to have your imput. I always come to this forum first.
