There has been some discussion about just when you should turn in your 10 year TIP. Some turn it in at the end of each trip, others just let it ride.
The justification for turning it in at the end of each trip appears to be to prevent any hassles if you break a windshield, total the rig, or sell/trade your rig before the next trip south.
The justification for keeping it appears to be not having to hassle with getting a new one every time you cross the border and the additional cost involved with getting a new one each trip.
Since the 6 month TIP is no longer available for RV's, there isn't much choice but to get the 10 year tip.
But if they were to bring back the 6 month RV TIP in addition to the 10 year version, which one would you get? (remember, currently you can only have one 6 month vehicle TIP in your name at a time, so it would definitely interfere with singles in Class A's pulling toads or anyone with both vehicles in one name, and might interfere with people bringing motorcycles larger than 250 cc)
If there is enough interest in the 6 month RV TIP, maybe we can get it back.

I think if they had a 6 month RV TIP, I would get one, but would really like to see an annual vehicle/RV TIP, so you don't feel rushed to get back. We haven't turned in the 10 year TIP since we got it in 2006/7, but will this year on our return. Yes, I will buy one each trip after this year, just to sidestep any hassle.

I love the 10 year, wish I could get one for my tow vehicle. I put it on a side window so it is better protected. In over 10,000 miles in Mexico, no one has said a thing about the location. Additional it is on shaded glass behind a blind, totally hidden. Can only be seen if you know where to look and are two feet away. In fact, no one has ever checked if we have a permit!

If you can think ahead about the possibility of your buying a new or different RV, turn it in. It becomes useless if you change vehicles and creates a problem if you try to get another. We have used ours 4 times for the 55 or so dollars it cost. But if you second guess yourself about getting another RV each year since they became widely available (Dec. 1st, 2005) you'd have wasted approx. 165 dollars getting a new one again, let alone the hassel (most go through) doing it again and paying for the new one.
I have changed front windows where the sticker was attached, there was no problem, got it off and onto a sheet of plastic until my new window was in place, and applied it again. If there might be minor damage, who cares? You still carry the paperwork, I'm sure, and nobody is looking at it anyway. In an instance I know of well, a ten-year temp Importation permit was provided (pre-2005) and no sticker provided. That paper permit is now on its eighth returning year to mainland Mexico, nobody has asked where the window sticker might be.

It is a bother to keep the permit. We smashed a windshield on the way home last year so now I have the permit stuck to a piece of the windshield in the glove compartment that I will show them. Hopefully they will let me replace it or buy a new one. I think I will start turning it in when we leave.

Well now that the fee is the same , regardless of Vehicle or Time Allowance We will just carry on as usual! 10 years for the Moho and every trip for the Car!
We have a New Moho this year so We had to get a New 10 year Permit for it as well as the 180 Day on the Toad!
Ordered them Both on Line the other day ,waiting to see how long it takes for them to arrive!
I like the idea of mounting the decal on a Side window and will do that this time. When I peel the Old decal off on the Toad it leaves a sticky mess behind. Interestingly on the Motorhome, because it was placed on a "Tinted" area there was No residue. I'm thinking that the Tint was a Film so maybe those Decals don't adhere as well to Aftermarket Window tints as they do to Glass!

We went to Staples and bought a clear plastic pocket that we put the 10 year permit it and then adhere the clear pocket to the windshield. That way it looks properly applied, can be seen and is extremely easy to remove when replacing the windshield.

We kept ours and will again even though we had a challenge from when we traded MH's. The form you have on your site and the effort that Chris made to break the procedural code makes me feel like it's worth the risk.
