1. Are the Lifeline batteries the best way to go for a one battery set up in a Lance 820?

The only way one can criticize Lifeline is the cost. If you're willing to pay the $$$ for one, they are the best lead acid battery.

If you're good with keeping the water levels proper and keep the charge up, a good flooded battery is close in performance.

If you won't keep track of battery maintenance, either get the lifeline or get the cheapest battery WalMart has and replace it every year.

sears Die Hard Platinum series are supposed to be re-branded Odyssey AGM batteries (at a much cheaper price). If you can find the size you want, those will be better than the flooded wet cell batteries from Trojan/Lifeline.

My guess is that you're going to want to edit your response seeing how Lifelines are AGM batteries, not wet cells. http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/rv.php

my mistake. Lifelines are AGM. Looks like Trojan is making AGM now as well their flooded wet cell.

pricewise, though i would still check out the sears Die Hards as Odyssey batteries are certainly in the same league as Trojan/Lifeline.

I also have and recommend the Lifeline AGMs. I have two GRP 27s. I only have two years on them but they are holding up just fine so far.

One came with the camper from the factory. I added the second one which I purchased from:

www.bestconverter.com

Their price included shipping which can be substantial since the batteries are heavy.

It is really nice not to have to bother with water levels or corrosive gas.

Go to the Lifeline web site and check out distributors. I got mine from Empire Batteries in Tigard, Oregon. Batteries Plus can order them (or so they claim) but their prices on other products are not the lowest, so not sure what you would pay.

Happy Camping!

Trojans are good batteries but Lifeline Batteries are better in my opinion. I dont have a dealer close to me so I buy them from the company. They will ship them to your door. Price is better going direct too...

Have you done this recently? I tried buying direct from Lifeline a couple of months ago and was told they do not sell to individuals, only to distributors.
I was told the same thing. You have to explain that you have tried to find a dealer "resonably" close to you but none exist or if they do exist they dont have any Lifelines in stock. Persistence helps...good luck.

If you only have room for one camper battery like me, then the one thats rated higher in RC will go longer before you need to recharge it.

That one is Trojans T-1275 for my Lance 915. I think it will just fit. It's a 12 Volt Golf Cart battery with a large 280 min. RC rating. Alas it costs around $180 and weights in at 82 lbs.

Lifelines and other AGM's tend to low RC ratings for size in my experience. But I guess they live a long time.

Good AGM batteries are cheap when you divide their price by 8 or 10 years.

I now have two Optima Group 31 yellow top batteries... 6 years old. They've gone through many cycles... we have boondocked 848 nights using them for our power needs.

My next AGM batteries will be Group 31 Lifelines. For their 25% extra storage capacity.

Never be penny wise and dollar foolish... that's what I'm hearing some say!

In the newer type campers (higher daily energy budgets) its all about the batteries if you boondock. Doubly so if you are charging off grid. Another doubly so if you camp in the cold. Choose well and camp well.

Wow! Great information. Thank you all very much. Will the standard Lance charger with the charge wizard work OK with an AGM battery?
