Quick question
For those that installed Allure, did you put down the underlayment? That's the stuff that is intended for laminate floors.
Or did you lay directly onto the clean plywood floor?
Thanks

I used Armstrong Bruce laminate which has the Formica like material on the bottom. I also used the foam underlayment to provide a little extra insulation. The laminate and underlayment still are no where near the thickness of rug and pad.

I put down "quiet walk" underlayment. It made the floor feel very soft and definitely warmer. It also helped with any uneveness. The floating floor will give you a sense of "mushiness" where it bridges over uneven areas. I have that a little on engineered floor in home. Nothing you really notice unless you are looking for it but trust me when you lay your own new floor you will walk around and notice. Don't be concerned. Oh yes and the underlayment also helps with sound. I used the Allure in my home office the first time I installed it and I put it down over some tight pile carpet-you know the stuff that is nearly indoor outdoor with rubber back. It worked great. As radardog said the pad and floor is much less thick than the old carpet. Don't forget to tape the seems of underlayment if you use it.

OK, looks as though people have used both methods. I have some underlayment (the stuff with a built in tape overseam) left over from doing the home (I used click together laminate, not Allure in the stick house) so I'll use that under the Allure in the MH. I was concerned with the noise mainly - the thick felt + carpet dampens a lot of noise whereas Allure on the bare floor would not.
Thanks all.
