The KOA in Ureka is a decent place to stay.It is kind of hidden so look for a lumber yard and turn left there.

It sounds like a very long day so as mentioned you might want to stay up North of there because the road is slow going in places.

We stayed in Ureka KOA four days then went North to Honeybear Campground in Gold Beach. There are lots of RV places there. I believe it is about three hours travel between the two.

There was a bug station coming back into Ca. A tight fit in the lane so we just took our time.

I must have missed that because I cut across from Cresent City to Roque River. I can't remember the highway, but it was two lane and lots of curves, but very manageable. Then we drove up five to Eugene and we cut back towards the coast and up to Long Beach, Washington. So we must have looped around the bug station.

Like the bugs ... they only come out at a certain time of the day.

There is an agricultural inspection station just inside CA on hwy 101. No apples, pears, or cherries allowed.
Rather than KOA, I would recommend Mad River Rapids in Arcata or
River Walk in Fortuna, both are about 12 miles away from Eureka. Arcata is North and Fortuna is south.
You should have no problem with Hwy 101 and your rig. Take your time and enjoy the scenery, use the pullouts, enjoy our area.

Instead of taking the road that comes out on 101 at Florence, stay on I-5 just a little longer going South. Just past Cottage Grove, there is a road that takes you thru Elkton and you come out on 101 at Reedsport - - about 25 mailes
South of Florence. Lots better chance of seeing the elk on the Reedsport road, and it is a much more RV friendly road with fewer curves and very little change in elevation.

We drive both these roads frequently.

There is absolutely positively a bug station right at the border between California and Oregon on 101. Sometimes it is closed late at nite.

OUB - - Brookings, OR

The reason for spelling is so that all of the words don't look the same.
