RE: What's on your pick-up when the campers not?

I also have the Trifecta by Extang. Very nice cover. Goes off and on in about 5 minutes and there is nothing that is permantly attached to the truck which is another reason why I purchased it.

Water Tank Inspection Hole Part 2:

After seeing a post on here where someone had done this, I wanted too also do it. I more or less followed there idea.:B This was how it started: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/23214309.cfm Then after finding the tank we drilled a hole in it!:E Too late now but we're glad we did. This is a 12-13 year old tank and as you can see there was some crud in it. Almost like it was rust that was on the bottom. Also there was still about 3 or so gallons of water left in the tank which we are curious about because we did drain the tank after our last trip. Installing an 8" inspection hole: 1. Remove carpeted cover that was over tank. Found the 6 screws hiding in the shag. 2. Cut a retainer ring from cheap white cutting board. This goes inside the tank for support. 3. Bend ring (it is flexible) and slide into hole in tank. 4. Put top cover over the tank hole. 5. Drill screw hole through tank and retainer ring. 6. Install screw and nut. 7. Drill hole on opposite side. 8. Install screw and nut. This will keep ring from moving. 9. Drill remainder of holes. 10. Remove everything. Leave retainer ring in tank. 11. Get wet vac and vacum out tank of all plastic and water. 12. Clean tank. 13. Put a good bead of silicone around hole in tank. 14. Put top ring into tank. 15. Reach in and match retainer ring to bottom of hole. 16. Install stainless steel screws and nyloc nuts in all holes. 17. Tighten all screws evenly squishing silicone out. $22.00 8" inspection hole from West Marine $2.36 screws and nyloc nuts 1.5 hours labor http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d709b3127ccef86d99b9c12b00000030O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d709b3127ccef86c386a204c00000030O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d709b3127ccef86c3ef2a1e700000030O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d709b3127ccef86c95c1e11900000030O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d709b3127ccef86db4a2008e00000040O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d709b3127ccef86c9a60a12700000030O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d709b3127ccef86d57bf407a00000030O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

RE: Want to Add Water Inspection Hole?

UPDATE: I found the screws and was able to gain access to the water tank. I tried the magnet trick but I don't think it was strong enough. Then I borrowed an electronic stud finder from a friend. It helped narrow it down and then I just picked my way through the shag, strand by stran until I found each on. There were 6 screws. Thanx again for the advice. I knew they were there, just couldn't find the little buggers!:h http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d701b3127ccef87dd44b44c200000040O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d701b3127ccef87d01ba85f100000040O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/ http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d701b3127ccef87d458b04d200000040O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

Want to Add Water Inspection Hole?

Would like to add an inspection hole to my water tank as I have seen others do. My question is , how do I get the carpeted piece of wood up so I can get at the tank? I have felt the carpet all over and can not find any screws through the carpet. Did they nail it down or is there a secret. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d738b3127ccef872e397205a00000040O00AaNm7lk4bsmIPbz4a/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/

RE: Help. Mold in My Watertank

Sooooo, after reading these posts and the link to MicroChem, I'm more confused. What should the receipe be for the mixture for each gallon that the holding tank holds?

NewHampshire to Tennessee questions??

Will will be going from NH to TN to NH the week of 10/3 to 10/10. Plan on doing along the way and around Nashville, TN. Plan on going to Jack Daniel's Daniel's. On the way back up we will hit distillery, VA. Any suggestions on what else to do and where to stay in the TC. Forget Elvis and things like that. Been there, done that! Hook-ups or not, that doesn't matter. Thanx

RE: Truck Camping Mileage

We're relatively new to the TC world but this is my take on it: We're hungry! Pull over, get in the TC! We need bathroom break! Pull over, get in the TC! We vave traveled enough today! Pull over, get in the TC! Want to get reacquainted! Ahh, nevermind! You get the idea!

RE: CB Antenna Install on Chevy?

Thanx for the link Jeff and everyones ideas and suggestions. That picture gives me excellent start for making a bracket for the mag mount Lil' Will that I have. You folks are great!:B buggsy, I like your nickname! I go by the AKA of Bugs. If someone call the house looking for my real name, it's probably a salesman!

CB Antenna Install on Chevy?

My CB Antenna, a magnet mount, has always been installed in the center of the roof. Magnetic so I can remove it to go through the car wash. Well now with the TC I have to move it but, I do not know where to put it. I think I need to fabricate a bracket that will mount under the hood and have a nice flat surface that comes up, out and over the fender somehow to mount the magnetic mount to. Does anyone have a picture of there mount? Thanx

Sliding Rear Window

Was thinking of possibly replacing our non-sliding rear window with a sliding rear window (on the truck) to allow access, air conditioning, heat and pet pass through to the TC. Has anyone done this? Was it costly? Did it leak? Thanx

RE: 1st TC Trip, Thanx to All

Thanx for all the comments about the combination folks! Greatly appreciated! When we were looking for the TC we never thought about the color but it compliments the truck rather well. Jefe-this is a model 945, not 845. It has a heat vent going into the black/gray water valve locker though. Does that mean it has the winter package? Travelinglane-Yep, we took it off. We wanted to make sure we could do it so we did. Getting the back centered is a problem though. But practice will hopefully take care of that. Looking to maybe purchase some rear-mounted centering brackets. Supposedly will make the job eaiser.

1st TC Trip, Thanx to All

This was our 1st trip in our new to us 1997 Lance 945 after I put the torklifts on, the airbags on and purchased some Fastguns to complete the package. And of course we went to a campground! We went to a campground just to make sure we knew how to do everything and to make sure everything worked. And everything did work just as the previous owner stated. We had rain, (it was dry inside), we had cool temps, 45 degrees, (the heater worked). Everything was great including the New Hampshire/Maine scenery! The truck performed very well. Put almost 500 miles on with and without the TC on the back, over hill and dale and got 13.96 MPG. Never strained a bit. Well, maybe on a couple of the hills the D-Max/Ally might have downshifted. We are very impressed with the complete package and hope this will be what we do in a few years when I retire. Thanx to everyone that offered help to the questions we asked. Included (I hope) are some pics! Which tank do I use first?

We have a '97 Lance 945 that is going on it's maiden voyage tomorrow and we have a question about the propane tanks. The unit has an automatic switch over valve for the tanks. One tank has an empty/full guage on it and the other does not. My question is which one do we use first? The one with the guage seems logical to me because if you check it every so often you can visually see that it is empty and get it refilled. Thanx for any help!

Dumping Waste Tanks in NH?

Not new to camping but we are new to having a potti inside a truck camper!:B My question is, if we go "Boondocking" as I think you call it, and use the potti and water, where do we dump the waste tanks in New Hampshire before we get home? Do we go to a camp ground and pay to use their facalities?

RE: Truck Needs Everything!?

Styrofoam sounds like an excellent idea. Will give that some serious thought! Have the air bags and Torklifts on order. Airbags will arrive on Monday and should start installing them Monday, weather permitting. Haven't seen a ship date yet on the Torklifts yet. Back in the day, I used to rebulid motors, do brake jobs, do clutch jobs, etc. So yes my time is money, but if I can save install $$$, it is well worth it. No drilling, all bolt on, I think we can handle it. It came with a Coleman air conditioner that was not mounted. Put AC power to it in the garage and it cools just fine. Got a gasket today for the install. Just not sure if I want to pull out the original vent and disrupt the caulking to do this. Just a little scared I guess! Thanx for all the responses. I will post pics (I hope) when we've got it sittin' in the truck! Bugs
