RE: Exhaust brakes need for 2006 F-350?

I have an '05 with the tow/haul which works ok. Downshifts for you when going down a grade but I felt that the motor was just revving to high and I still needed to get on the brakes. I put on a BD exhaust brake which was a difficult install for me and about 11 hours long. Now I don"t have to use the brakes (compared on the same downgrade). Kind of pricey though.
Think you just may be just a tad overloading your F-250? Maybe the reason you felt the need for an exhaust brake?

Anybody notice all the rv's parked nearby? Storage lot? Wonder where?
Hopefully free market competition will continue in this country. Because of it, we have both of these beauties to choose from. If some get their way, we may all be driving 50hp econoboxes.

And you went from a well known, high quality rv(Excel) to an unknown? Why? Excel continues to build a high quality unit, I think if I wanted something new, Excel would be one of the first I would look at.

RE: Spied: 2011 Silverado 3500HD

Is the front bumper cheeks, though downsized, still made of plastic? Why does a crew cab, dual rear wheel, 4wd pickup with a MSRP of close to $60,000 come equipped with plastic bumpers and plastic wheel covers. Has Obama appointed a chromed plastic Czar to the board of GM?
I can see that if Chrysler survives, quickly surpass GM/Chevy in the pickup truck market, especially the HD share. While I still am a big Ford turck fan, I would certainly choose a great looking 3500 Dodge over this very hodge podge, odd looking trucks.

RE: 19.5" wheels

I have the Continentals, too. Ordered the truck with the Off Road(ha, ha, like I am going to take a 9,000lb truck far from the pavement)package, which added all season tires, HSRs in the front, HDRs in the rear, Can't tell much difference but the Continentals seem to ride real well. Only time I felt real wandering was crossing a bridge that had steel deck. Tires still look brand new, seems they have about an inch of tread.
Still do not understand Ford's decision to drop the 19.5s and the big axle and frame, other than to save weight. Who the hell wants to drive faster than 80mph in a large pickup. That is what the GT500 is for.

RE: umbilical cord extension?

Yes it does, I use an extension for the 7-pin cord. Bought it at the local rv dealer who happens to have a well stocked store, Leo's in Gambrills, MD. I don't know how long it is but it works just fine.

RE: 2007 Suburban 1500/2010 Summerland

Have you already bought the camper? If you have, than you might as well stay with what you have. The cart is already in front of the horse, but all is not lost. Load the trailer for just what you need to camp, tow it to a scale and see what it weighs, and seperately weigh your truck. If you are at the limits for the truck, sacrifice and leave some things at home. Sometimes it makes sense to carry some supplies in the truck while you are on the road. If I owned both, and since trading in what you have will probably result in a real financial beating, take it easy, keep the speeds down, drive in the right lane and enjoy your camper. Just make sure you have the appropriate weight distributing equipment and know how to use it for safe travels.

RE: Limited slip rear end Dodge 1500 Ram

$300 sounds like a very decent price but.. IF I was inclined to have other than an open differential, I would install some type of true locker, either mechanical or electric/air. Limited slip is just that, limited. I would much rather have a feature that would positively locked both sides of the axle as one when I need it.

RE: 19.5" wheels

19.5's on my truck, even in strong side winds towing a very big box of a trailer, the truck felt sure footed and well planted. Up and down the mountains, tight curves the truck never wiggles or wanders. Sure they are a bit stiff, speed limited, but they provide long life and a decent ride.

A good move by Chrysler

In these tuff times, a good move. Much more important to get new conventional products to market quick

RE: "What can I tow" question you probably have never seen.

I think you have a beautiful car there, there are plenty of new built lightweight trailers in the size you mention that I think your wagon will be able to pull fairly easy. If it is an option, I know I would like to have disc brakes installed on the front wheels. I have seen quite a few Fords of your vintage with disc up front, should be a fairly easy task.

RE: "What can I tow" question you probably have never seen.

I would love to see that car. Brings back fond memories of long road trips my brother and I would make with our GrandParents. We would sit in the "way back", the flip up rearward facing seat, hanging our feet out the roll down tailgate window. The carbon monoxide wafting through the opening would keep us lauld to sleep for hours.
About towing, hmmm... big body on frame wagon=lots of weight, real soft suspension, 3.00 axle, 200hp/280lbtq. Swapping out to better towing gear, 3.73,3.90, Adding stronger new leaf springs, good quality robust shocks, and good away control, weight distributing I would think 3,000 to maybe 5,000lbs could be do-able. Ensure the engine cooling system is up to the task, also I would install a quality(plate type) transmission cooler oh and make sure the cooling fan is working properly.

RE: "Half Ton Towable"-They Are Serious?

Looking at the ad, the weights did not catch my eye. What did was the MSRP and the asking price for that trailer is "$54,000"! For an Open Range? They must have a hell of a sense of humor.

RE: Videos of the new HD RAM

Great looking trucks, the improvement from the previous model is outstanding. Dodge(Ram?) designers need a pat on the back just for the interior, no more slabs of hard plastic mouldings.

RE: no suspension in my 5th wheel

I have had many boat trailer with the torsion axles, and I love them. No more noisy rusting leafs to worry about. Gives the boat a smooth ride down the highway. Never have seen a torsion axle(not talking about the Mor/Ryde types) equipped with shocks. I will give you one suggestion that has worked well for me. During the off season I raise the trailers frame up to relieve the constant load on the torsion springs, my thoughts and through experience it prevents the springs from taking a "set", thus allowing longer spring life.

RE: GM Recall

Removing sound deadening pad is going to cure the problem? Won't the equipment still be exposed to the elements? How about the trucks in the US where it snows? Is there a notice also for the owner to avoid getting the carpet wet, such as cleaning said carpet?
