Maybe.. finally a 1/2ton with a diesel

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/11/ram-light-and-heavy-duty-pickups-to-receive-major-modifications-in-2012.html
But, and this is a big butt... how will you feel driving a Dodge Ram, pardon I mean Ram with a Fiat sticker in place of the well known, well regarded big "C" on the fender? What was wrong with the small Cummins V-8 that was developed for this application>

I agree with Mike

Hello Chrysler, do you recall what happened when Ford renamed the Taurus the "Five Hundred"? Painful lesson learned. Now is not the time to alienate your most loyal customers.

RE: New Hemi coming for HD RAM...6.4L and 450 - 500hp

Ain't free market(well sort of free, as long as you don't count taxpayer funded bailouts)capitalism great. Ford's new 6.2 almost to market now Chrysler bringing out a better HEMI, wonder what GMC has planned.
Now we all have to hope that the market doesn't rebound too soon or the price of gas will start going through the roof once more killing all these great plans.

RE: Dodge/Chrysler enthusiasts, here's a link to the 5 year plan

I looked and could not see reference to a diesel application for the Wrangler. Could someone point me to the paragraph? I have been waiting a long time for a fuel efficient, torque ladened 4-banger diesel under the hood of a Wrangler, about damn time. And with a manual tranny, manual transfer cases and MANUAL HUBS.

RE: Where is the beef?

Since the 2500/3500 is the same cab structure as the 1500 series, I think now I understand why the whole front hood assembly would shake when my friend would tow his Mobile Suites, leaving a stop light with the 2500HD D/A. Just nothing there save for sheet metal to support the hood.

Where is the beef?

I know the host is a tad annoying but... the video is quite interesting. Under the skin there is sure a big difference in structure, or lack of.

RE: Oct Truck Sales

Sales is sales. If you only bring one gun to a gun fight, that is what you have to fight with. Maybe Toyotas mistake.

RE: Oct Truck Sales

Year to date sales:
Tundra-64,136
GMC Sierra-91,327
Ram-155,467
What sales are Tundra's beating?
Don't get your shorts in a bind, talk about sensitive. Considering I own two late model Toyotas doubt I am bashing them. Just curious what is the cause for the collapse of Tundra sales. Of course I have driven my mighty F-450 over expansion joints, why do you ask? Probably feels the same as driving over a Tundra's tailgate:W
Sorry that was mean.
Here is an interesting video on the trucks:

RE: Towing

I would recommend a slider hitch to anyone pulling with a short box, but... a slider hitch will weigh even more than a fixed conventional hitch and you sure are short of available carrying capacity already. 9,000lb fifth wheel is really going to tax your truck, lot of weight on that rear axle. Hope for who ever is riding in the cab you installed LT truck tires, not carrying the weight on P-series tires.

RE: Dropped it!

If the truck's bed is badly damaged, there is a way to save quite a bit on replacement. Hundreds of stock OEM pickup beds are removed each year to allow aftermarket "upfitter" custom work beds to be installed. Facilities re-sell those almost brand new beds for a whole lot less than what a dealer purchase would cost you. There is a local yard that has racks filled with these beds waiting to be purchased. Many I saw last time I drove by were Public Works yellow(think checker cab). All you have to do is have it repainted to match your truck and have it installed.
To hopefully prevent the experience you just went through, I do the whole hitch up procedure myself, not letting anyone/anything lose my concentration. I also have marked the locking part of my hitch with reflective paint. I can shine a flashlight at it and insure that the jaw has fully wrapped around the pin. I also do a pull test with the landing legs only about 1" off the ground, good strong tug. My hitch, Reese Signature Series is suppose to prevent drops by not allowing the locking pin to be inserted unless the jaw is fully latched but I still use the flashlight and the pull test.

RE: Oct Truck Sales

Holly cow, what is going on with the Tundra? Sales have fallen like a meteorite. Can a flex-o-matic frame and/or a bend-o-matic tailgate be responsible for the fall? Quickly heading south to be with the Titans?

RE: Ford Superduty's Price

Why I chose a F-450 over a modified class 8 HDT truck? Hope DIY Guy doesn't mind but I lifted the link from his webpage:
http://www.rvnomad.com/
I bought my truck with a warranty, and I opted for the extended warranty that I negotiated down to half the asking price. If you buy a used class 8, unless you are extremely educated in the workings of such a truck, you may have quite a financial ride ahead of you. I almost bought a converted Volvo from Mr. Larry Ziegler, I think another forum member bought the same truck Larry offered to me. When I looked into possible needed repairs over the life of the truck, for my needs it just did not make sense to go that route. Pluse I was looking for a dual purpose truck, one that I could use around the house that could also fill my towing needs. The 450 fit that need better than a HDT conversion.

RE: How many miles is too many for Ford V10?

Yup, lot of miles per year. I would shy away from it and keep looking. Not only is the V-10 an excellant engine, it is matched up to one of the best automatics transmissions built. The Torqueshift is rated for a higher GCWR than any other pickup transmission available.

RE: Pulling Heavy 5W Without Duallys

Couple of years ago neighbor got a job transfer to the Seatle area from here in Southern Maryland. They owned a MS 36TK3 and wanted to take it with them. Their tow vehicle was a 2004 GMC 2500HD D/A. Since they had been stationary fulltimers, they downloaded a lot of belongings out of the trailer. Him and I took the truck/trailer to the scales. Even when almost empty the trailer weighed a tad over 18,000lbs. We installed Timbrens on the truck, he hitched up and drove solo across the country. The truck did a terrific job, though loaded well past the manufacturers ratings, just like any other SRW truck.

RE: Hurricane output announced

When this optional powertrain in the Raptor arrives in showrooms in early 2010, the 6.2-liter V-8 will produce 411 hp and 434 ft.-lb. of torque, making Raptor the most powerful half-ton pickup available. Customers will now have the choice of two V-8 engines in the Raptor, Ford's proven 5.4-liter Triton V-8 or the new 6.2-liter V-8, which can be ordered beginning Dec. 1, with an MSRP of $41,995 including destination and delivery.
Imagine if the Ford guys do an "Ecoboost" version of the 6.2 with the twin turbos, I could see the engine easily producing 500hp and 500lbs torque, infringing on diesel territory without the emission headaches.
Real nice in a F-350.

RE: Ford Superduty's Price

Are there still people out there that think window sticker is the actual selling price? Doubt many vehicles would be sold if that were true. Ford is not the only one with high sticker prices, I just looked at a new Dodge 1500 that stickered for over $50,000, a Chevy 3500 DRW Duramax for $61,000(and it had "simulated" chrome wheels!).

RE: Pulling a 5th wheel a great distance

I towed from Southern Maryland to Casper, Wyoming in 2&1/2 days, almost 1900 miles. First day started out at 3:00am, did not stop except for fuel for 900 miles, next day 750 and rolled into Casper noon on the third. Towing 32,000lbs, truck and fiver. Your right, it will wear you out. I was lucky, no big city, all highway, I-70 &I-80 most of the way.
