Ventura Beach RV

Have always liked this campground as it is kept clean and it's close to the ocean and other activities. Getting away from home meant a reduction of 20 plus degrees this weekend which I really liked, unfortunately it sounds as though the temp are going to continue to be high next week. If the park would just work on a couple of the short tempered folks in the office. I think this winter we're going to try Emmawood to see what it is like?

Refrigerator Exhaust Vent

At home, where I park the trailer there is a Cedar tree directly over the refrigerator exhaust cover. When I go up and wash off the roof a considerable amount of the trees needles / leaves come out from under this cover. I have thought of removing this cover and vacuuming out the built up debris. I was wondering if anyone else pulls that cover off and how difficult it is as well as anyhting I should be conserned about when I do? Any experieced voices are appreciated. Thanks

RE: Zucchini Casserole

We too have been blessed or cursed with a bunch crop of squash. A friend gave me the following receipe which I have made twice and dare you to close your eyes and not say it is apple pie. Yes a Zucchini pie. 1/4 cup lemon juice (i used bottled) 3/4 cup water 3/4 cup granulated sugar 2 tbs cinnamon (more if you like) 4-6 cups Zucchini Cut Zuchinni, scoop out the seeds, dice into small pieces. Put Zucchini in sauce pan along with lemon juice and water, cook until soft but not mushy. DRain Zucchini but leave in pan, add sugar and cinnamon and mix into Zucchini. You can add corn starcth but I haven't needed to. Pour in pie shell, I used ready made from Trader Joe's. Strusel Topping: 1 cup flour 1/2 cup brown sugar 6 tbs cold butter 1/4 tsp salt (optional) Use pastry cutter inner thing and mix butter into topping. Spread topping over entire top of pie. Place in 325 pre heated oven and bake for 25 minutes I don't tell people what it is until after they have tasted it and to date everyone has said it is a delicious apple pie.

RE: Keeping the ants out

We used to use baby powder around the tent and it kep them out, just make a solid trail / line around the perimeter of the tent or in your case camper / trailer.

RE: Scary Night in the Campground!

Happened to a friend at a local campground that a group of us go to all the time. He arrives before we do and is setting up, has his scissor braces between his wheels, disconnected his chain, unlocked his hitch ball, stacked up his suspect looking 2 X 6" boards under his toungue (you know where I'm going... As he's raising his trailer toungue off the ball the trailer rolls back a coupole inches enough to topple the stack of boards as well twist and eject the scissor braces. Well the trailer starts moving backwards, the skinniest, oldest guy runs behind the trailer to see if he can stop it. It was one of thiose scenes you didn't know if you should laugh or what. I only wished someone had been prepared and had a video of the scene it would have been worth 15K no doubt. As with your situation no one was hurt and m an did we continue to give him a ration all weekend long.

Pulling Coax Cable

I have two tv's in my fifth wheel, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. I want to hard wire my trailer so I can watch either satellite or cable when available without having to string cables from the dish through the windows to my satellite receivers. I haven't yet checked, but figure I will be able to see the existing coax that runs from the connection point outside of my trailer routed in the basement and also guess it is routed up the wall of the trailer just below the living room television. My challenge though, and the reason I have posted this question is with regards to the bedroom tv which is located in the curbside of the trailer all the way up in the front where their is no basement to run the cables. In fact I pulled off the cable faceplate which is located on the roof behind the tv. I found that the cable feels loose in that I can pull a foot or so through the opening without any resistance. The question is do you think I can tie two nex cables to that existing coax and use it as a pull cable to fish in two lines so I can whatch cable or satellite in the bedroom as well as the livingroom? My fear is the obvious, If the connection on my pull coax comes loose I have no way of reversing the cable and lose all form of connection for even watching cable and would be left with installing an ugly connection point on the exterior of the trailer just outside the bedroom tv. I am sure one if not more of you have had this dilemma, what did you do????

Winegard VS5312A Switch Box

Alright I am hoping I may have found the solution of my dreams and thought someone in the trailer life family may have experience with the product. I have been e-mailing Winegard to see if the VS5312A will allow me to watch my two tv's using multiple sources. I have the cable from outside that comes to the boosted wall plate which Winegard said to attach to the box position cable in. I understand that I need to install a second coax from outside (direct TV Dish) to the box. From there I am hoping to confirm that the signal going through the one existing coax to the bedroom can be split or shared by either source, cable or satelite by pushing the corresponding selector button on the front of the Winegard box? I understand I will need two Direct tv receivers but I won't be as worried in having to figure out how in the heck to get a second coax from the main tv in the living room to the second tv in the bedroom. Is this possible has technology caught up with my need? Now if they could only figure out how to get the spell check on trailer life fixed...

RE: Cleaning Weber Q100 Cast Iron Grill

One more thing. Weber is an awesome company that stands behind their product. After 6 months of ownership of our grill my dog got his leash tangled up in the table the grilll was on and all came crashing down. The dog was fine but the lid on the gril was cracked and handle was broken. I called Weber told them exactly what had happened and they sent me the replacement parts no charge including shipping. I explained it was my fault and they said no worries we want you to continue to enjoy Weber products. I got to tell you I have used that story on several occassions when I have been given not so good service. I tell the person I will always purchase Weber products, yours, not so sure.

RE: Cleaning Weber Q100 Cast Iron Grill

From time to time and if it is really dirty I will get a can of the Easy-off barbecue cleaner. Heat the grill spray on scrub with seperate grill brush and then use a hose tyo wash it off. Yes it takes off the majority of the seasoning but it looks brand new and gives me reason to reseason (barbecue) more. I've also have to use a tooth pick or torch tip cleaner and go around the tube to clear any grease or bits which are blocking flame. Finally and it is important after you use the hose to wash off the crud tip the barbecue up so the end where the stricker is up slightly to allow any water that collected in the flame tube to leak out.

RE: Spare tire blew up

Thankfully no such issue for me but a friend had his let loose and the escaping air was directly straight at the back side of his trailer and actually got under and lifted, basically ripped open two section of th aluminum siding. Most bizarre thing I have ever seen.

RE: No Ethics at Oceano Dunes 4th of July

Yep, crazy's abound at Pismo Beach. We stopped going there in the 60's when an idiot, drunk off his you know what ran his sand rail through our campsite into our fire. Used to be a great place to play. I also understand that Devils Slide which few could climb in the 60's is relatively flat. What a shame.

RE: Rincon Parkway 7/4

I am assuming your on the wait list at Pismo Coast Village, what page? We're on page 7 and it doesn't sound likely that we'll get the three spaces we need. We figured such would be the case and made reservation at Flying Flags in Buellton. Won't be as cool but they make up for it with their proximity to a number of really good wineries. I looked last week and FF still had spaces available at least their automated reservation system said they did. Come and join us at the wineries....

RE: Can't get the hang of cast iron

there is nothing like cast iron cookware for even heat and durability. While we have mostly regular unenameled (is this a word) cookware I also have a dutch oven that is enamaled inside and out for cooking soups and sauces which are acidic so as to not ewffect the seasoning I have built up. I like both and as identified have to be extra careful with the enameled unit to make sure I don't chip the enameling. The french use mostly enameled cast iron cookware so he when using I usually open a bottle of wine, Californian of course.

RE: HELP!! Slide room won't go out!!

Use the hand crank and crank out the slide about an inch or two, remove the crank and try the switch again. I have found that the micro switch on my slide is very sensative and sometimes the slide comes in just enough that it, the switch on the slide mechanism stops it from moving out. Once I crank the slide out a couple of inches it works fine. Just remember to remove the crank after you have cranked open the slide a few inches.

RE: Dissapointed With Campgrounds

Just to be clear. The stickers were at our campsite, the developed area and at all the other campsites at both locations. Also we always keep our dogs on leash, on the trail and always, always pick up after them and many times after other dogs who's owners don't seem to feel its their responsibility. I am also an expert (counting the number of times I have been stuck) with Goat Head stickers. My gripe is that the two campgrounds I am talking of have never been this bad in the developed campsite areas and while I understand everyone is feeling the pinch of the economy to raise rates and lower the quality of the site is frustrating to say the least. I am sure you, all of you would be a little more insensed had you experienced what we encountered as it was extreme. Next planned trip is to Flying Flags in Buellton, I'll let you know if that location has gone to hell as well.

Dissapointed With Campgrounds

We have gone to two local campgrounds in the last thirty days and both were so loaded with sand burr stickers we spent the most time pulling them out of our dogs fur rather then enjoying the camping. Both Lake Casitas and the new KOA Ventura Ranch RV (previously Far West) were just terrible. It was unbeliveable how many stickers and fox tails there were so many our dogs had to stay inside the rig.

I get 10 mpg no matter what brand of fuel I use but I will say "I" think my truck runs better on Chevron Gas. Must be the techron additive?

Diode Dillema

This has not been a very productive weekend for me. It started out trying to locate the reason for not having running lights on the trailer and turned into I lost a diode in the power distribution box under the hood. I checked for power on my 7 pin and all poasts worked fine except for the running light post. Figuring it was either a dropped wire of bad fuse I started with the fuse. Thinking the diode was a fuse I went to remove and as it came out of the fuse block it flipped into the air and landed somewhere within the engine compartment. I spent the next hour looking to no avail. I have two questions 1) does anyone know the location and fuse number, size for the fuse that controls the running lights in a 2001 f-250? I don't even see running lights described in the owners manual. 2) Anyone have an idea of the diode part number, most of the auto parts store yesterday had no idea what I was talking about. And as a follow up the store that did said I should not drive the truck until I can locate and inatall a replacement diode?
