RE: slide out awning replacement

If you are referring to replacing the fabric on your slide topper, then here is info and pictures about how I replaced mine.

RE: Anyone build wood ramps to work under MH?

Our driveway is sloped, so I built these ramps for the front tires to level the RV. Three layers of 2"X12" nailed together with a 2"X4" as a stop block in the rear. Been using them for 6 years now with no problems. I am very careful when backing onto them, as the stop block seems inadequate. They are heavy!

RE: Quick water heater bypass question

A three valve bypass has a valve in the inlet, another in the outlet and a third in the bypass line. To bypass, close the valves in the inlet and outlet and open the valve in the bypass.
Don't forget to drain the water heater.

RE: Signs of the times

Another "sign of the times". The local Best Buy store has a number of parking spots near the entrance with signs "Reserved for fuel efficient vehicles". No explanation of what that means. I drive a Honda Civic that gets 38mpg highway. Is that a fuel efficient vehicle? Yesterday - black Friday - we walked by a large SUV parked in one of these spaces (Where are the Fuel Efficient Vehicle Parking Space Police when you need them?)
I'm thinking of parking in one of these spaces next time.

RE: Signs of the times

This past Spring we visited South Pass City in Wyoming, a partially restored mining town dating back to the 1870's. Really liked their sign with a population of "about 7".

RE: Upgrading roof vent fan

I installed the TurboMaxx Fan on our bathroom vent a couple of years ago. It installs over the existing roof vent, so there is no need to remove the old vent. I removed the MaxxAire vent cover and used the brackets to mount the TurboMaxx Fan. I also pulled the fan blades off the old fan motor shaft and used the wiring for the TurboMaxx. The hardest part of the install was mounting the fan control.
We usually use the TurboMaxx fan on the lowest speed as it moves a lot of air and is very quiet at that speed. If you need to use the highest speed, prop the bathroom door open to avoid creating a vacuum that could draw in odors from the black tank.
DW loves the new fan!

RE: navigation/gps

I attach my Garmin nuvi right at the top left corner of the windshield. In that position it doesn't block vision of the road and is within easy reach to use the touch screen. Gets the signal just fine there.

RE: onan model 4KYFA26100K air filter

I have the same model generator. I agree that it is a bit difficult to replace the filter due to the tight space. However, with some wiggling around the old filter came out and the new one went in. Keep trying.

RE: Outer Banks of North Carolina

Here's a picture of our site (#34) at Ocean Waves back in 2006. We have been there in May and June in the past and were able to get a site mid-week by calling a few days ahead.

RE: Winterizing questions

Veebyes,
If your storage building has been unheated during several days of below freezing weather, then IMO you have been lucky rather than safe - so far. Running the pump until nothing comes out of the faucets leaves lots of water in the piping, most of which will flow back to the low sections of the piping. If this Winter there are a few days of slightly colder weather than previous Winters, you may come back in the Spring to an expensive repair. RV Antifreeze is cheap and is the only sure way to avoid freeze damage.

RE: Colter Bay, WY

The link (Click Here) that I provided in my post above was to the Colter Bay Village Campground, which has no hookups. This campground is first come, first served - no reservations. There is a second campground at Colter Bay which has a tab in the link of "RV Park". This one has full hookups and the sites can be reserved.
I would be surprised if the "late season" rate for the RV Park began as early as late August, but the best answer will come from a person who answers the reservation phone number provided in the link.

RE: Colter Bay, WY

Here's a link to info on the Colter Bay Village Campground. You may want to call them to inquire about sites that may fit your rig. They do not take reservations and site availability may be limited depending on whether you are coming in early August or later in the month when families are heading home for the start of school.

RE: Winterizing questions

Last year was the first time I tried blowing out the lines before pumping the pink A/F in. I was thinking that it might reduce the amount of A/F needed. Well, I still used the same 1-1/2 gallons to do the job, so that's the last time I'm going to bother with the extra step of blowing the lines.
LJ Cox is correct that the A/F will push the water ahead of it out of the lines. There is very little mixing.

RE: Leonid meteor show tonight, early Tuesday a.m.

About 7-8 years ago DW and I went to the beach to watch the Leonid meteor shower over the dark Atlantic Ocean. It was a spectacular display with several to many meteors visible each minute, some only a few seconds apart. A few left glowing trails that remained visible for 20-30 seconds. Probably the best shower we will see in our lifetime.
It is also the only time we have seen the Zodiacal light.

RE: Canadian Maritimes Intinerary - Comments?

For your consideration, when we visited the Fortress back in June 08 we stayed at the Louisbourg RV Park for two nights. It's a small, not fancy campground right next to the harbor and within easy walking distance of activities in town. The Fortress is only 2-3 miles away.

If you can get access to the bottom left side of your 4KY Onan then you can change the fuel filter easily. Read here for how I did mine.

RE: recomendation for rv site at grand canyon south rim

We have stayed at Trailer Village and visited the Canyon on two occasions for a total of six days and never heard a helicopter. There are flight restrictions over the Grand Canyon and the helicopter tours are required to stay away from the tourist areas on the south and north rims.
Trailer Village is the closest campground to the south rim. The Park shuttle stops at the campground.
