RE: Indiana State Parks

We love Potato Creek for it's lake/beach and bike trails, and Pokagon for it's bike trails and beach/lake. For hiking the Dunes is always a treat, can't beat the beach.

RE: Camping in Indiana

Great place to camp, one of our favorites now since the remodel. Should be fairly quiet in October. Going further south in Indiana during October could be more iffy - very popular time with the Covered Bridge Festivals - but if you don't mind crowds that might be something you could look into.

RE: Camping in Northern IL and WI

Not much to do in Lena...Nice enough KOA. Timber Lakes, with Galena nearby would be a good choice. What kind of things are you looking "to do"? That might yield some suggestions... Also do you want FHU?

RE: Lombard Il campground needed

West down 88 towards the Dekalb/Amboy area there are a few. There is a Yogi in Amboy (FHU) and Shabbona Lake State Park (elec only) in Dekalb. Prob 30-40 min to Lombard area. Unfortunately the Chicago region is very limited with CGs.

RE: Good Fishing?

Lake Chippewa CG near Hayward, WI dock your boat at your campsite, fish the Chippewa Flowage. We had a blast, fishing was excellent. Indian Shores CG near Minocqua, WI fish Lake Tomahawk.

RE: Hayward Wisconsin KOA

Another nice place to visit in Hayward if you have kids is the "Wilderness Walk".

RE: Disney Experts speak out!

Last year when we went my 10 yo loved Animal Kingdom. Just depends on the kid I suppose. There is a nice jungle trek where you can view animals up close. The safari ride is nice, when you see animals doing something other than sleeping :). Don't miss: Kali River Rapids, Expidition Everest, and Dinosaur. AK can be done easily in a day, it's not a big park. The buffet at Tusker House is good, my kids liked it. I agree, take advantage of A.M. EMH, seemed to me more guests took advantage of PM EMH than the morning ones. We knocked off all the big attractions at MK one morning, in less than an hour. Plus it will be cooler, so no long hot lines. Learn how to take advantage of Fast Passes, do your homework there, you can make it work for you if you don't mind taking turns running around to get the fastpasses-but get them early because they go quick. You defintely want them for Epcot. There is so much to see, so you can get a fastpass as soon as you arrive and then see the park while you wait. During peak times, Fastpasses are often gone BEFORE noon, for the ENTIRE day.

RE: Bo Woods Park, Sullivan, Il

We liked Lithia Springs and we drove through Coon Creek and marked the loops we liked. Both are very nice. Didn't go thru Bo Woods though. Nice area, great waterpark in Shelbyville, for a low fee - if you have kids. The lake levels have been at flood stage last 2 summers so beaches have been closed.

RE: Lake Geneve WI

About 30 minutes from Lake Geneva is Ottawa Lake CG at the Kettle Morraine SF Southern Unit. Very nice, just elec though. There is a Yogi in Caledonia, but that's still a good ways from L.G. They at least have fulls.

RE: Chicago Walmart

There is a Target/Kohl's shopping Center off of I-80 and Harlem, called Brookside Marketplace, but I have no idea if they allow overnight parking. 5 minute drive to the Tinley Metra stop.

RE: 5th wheel in Chicago???

Fish Lake Beach is probably the closest to Vernon Hills. Chain o' Lakes SP would also work, a little farther away than Fish Lake Beach. If you're arriving on a weekend, you'll need res's; if you can arrive by Wed. afternoon, you can probably find a nonreservable site available at Chain o' Lakes. Not sure how Fish Lake Beach operates - we haven't camped there. If you go to Chain o' Lakes, try for Fox Den CG; it's not reservable but is newer & the sites have more space. Usually some bigger rigs in there. Sites are electric hookup only; there is a showerhouse and dump station. Stay limit is 14 days in IL SPs. Note alcohol is not allowed in Chain o' Lakes. IL Beach SP is a good 3rd choice in the area. Similar features to Chain o' Lakes. Some sites are alcohol-allowed, and are usually filled on weekends; others are alcohol-prohibited and often available anytime. :) They do have some 50-amp sites there, but basically they're an asphalt parking lot. The rest of the sites are more natural. Be prepared for mosquitos! (Same goes for anywhere in Lake County.) Evanston is a city. I have no idea where you'd "drop" an RV there. We had enough trouble finding parking for an SUV. Good luck! I have lived in this area almost my entire life and this is your best advise. Ditto. My mom lives in Evanston....you aren't going to find a place to "drop" it.

RE: Nice/Safe RV Parks around Bloomington, IL

Is Comlara Park Big Rig Friendly? We have a 37ft TT with 2 slides.

RE: Campground near Chicago????

IL State Beach, Chain o Lakes, or Indiana Dunes. If you have to have full HU, go with the KOA near Union/Marengo.

RE: Disney World Safety?

As a formerly free-roaming teen, who went to Europe without parents at age 15, now 41 with two kids of my own, "Taken" was terrifying, and gave me a new perspective. I would show the girls the movie, and make sure THEY know not to leave the parks with any attractive young men. (While the movie is violent, it's not exploitive in an overtly sexual way.) It's a wake up call to 14 year olds who think they are immortal.

Keystone Sprinter 311BHS -Mystery Leak Solved?

Heads up to all you other Keystone owners out there.... We had a "mystery leak" on our 2008 311BHS. First noticed it Memorial Day 2008: water damage at the bottom corner under the breaker panel. Not too bad, they replaced the laminate/wood trim pieces that July. Did/could not determine leak source. We camped in several downpours that summer, never noticed any leaks or other water damage. Last September, after bringing our TT home from storage, while prepping for a weekend getaway, we found severe water damage. The week before we had seen about 6 inches of rain. The entire area where the kitchen cabinets meets the floor had swelled/discolored. (Took the TT in to the dealer, and they replaced everything - looks brand new:) so no problem there.) They said they checked for leaks, thought maybe the roof....but we said no- we had camped in heavy rain, no roof leaks. Did maybe the slide leak when pulled in? As every time we noticed water damage, it was after time in storage. They did adjust the slide for a noticable gap (near the original water damage BTW) and said they "sealed the roof" whatever that means. Never confirmed the water source. Brought the TT home May 20, and prepped for Memorial Day. Everything looking good, despite lots of spring rain, no new water damage or apparent leaks. Dewinterizing, flushing the lines, sanitizing everything. Sanitizing freshwater tank. Hooked up water hose to city water hookup to flush the antifreeze from the lines. Next day (the morning of our trip) DH notices NEW WATER DAMAGE at the same place as the first time, the bottom corner under the electric panel!:E DE JAVU! Where did it come from? I hadn't rained. The only thing on that side of the trailer involving water was hooking up the water hose to flush the lines. Connection?:@ Dave removes the drawer, the wood panel. Hooked up the water hose, turned on water. Water sprays everywhere on the inside, including ALL OVER THE BACK OF THE ELECTRICAL PANEL!:E On the inside, the cheap/inexpensive BLACK PLASTIC water hose connection was leaking badly. I won't get in to the dealer's mishandling of this issue, including the replacement part THAT WE STILL DON'T HAVE that they were supposed to ship out 2 WEEKS AGO.... DH bought a brass fitting from a nearby dealer and fixed the problem himself, took 10 minutes tops. A) why didn't the dealer check this originally? Considering the location and all.... B) why are they using such cheap parts in an area that is so sensitive (i.e. the electrical panel) and how can this possibly be safe or even allowed??? What it still a mystery to me is most of the time we used the freshwater tank, not the waterhookup. Only two trips last year, June and October, did we used the freshwater hookup. And during neither trip did we notice water leaking there. The kitchen water damage didn't appear to come from that source at all, since that water hookup wasn't used at all around that time, so we're still not sure about that. Anyway the point of this very long story (sorry bout that:o) is I'd advise you to replace that black plastic fitting with a brass one, before you suffer the same fate.

RE: Need Help From The Ladies

I'm so DONE reading this thing. I can't believe some of you are literally begging for more. Get a life...OMG this thing is insane. I think you all are being taken for a ride here. That was uncalled for. :( I thoroughly enjoyed this thread and laughed out loud at times. There has been lots of great stories and advice given, it's a must reading for any RV'ing noobs. Two thumbs up! (our first trip of the season under our belt, my friend and I (our families camp together) while sweating over cooking dinner one night in the heat, over the campstove, said "remember when we used to cook everything over the campfire?" Don't miss it! LOL And that was hot dogs or taco meat. Cornish hens? OMG. :)

RE: My little girl wants to go to Disney

We went in May '05, May DD was 7 and my son was 4. We went back last year over Spring Break. www.allears.net has tons of advice and so do disboards. Disney also has a forum called "The mom's panel" and I found it invaluable when planning our second trip. Every child is different, and they will handle Disney different. There are MANY shows, rides and things to do for kids under age 7. As far as height restrictions, my son at age 4 was tall enough to ride Tower of Terror. I read on a website at the time "Do not miss it, it's not scary, it's like a giant 'Froghopper' ride" - Not! He was terrified, and this was one of the first rides we went on as a group. This followed up our ride on Kali River Rapids the day before, too scary for him, and after T.O.T. he was traumatized to the point where he wouldn't ride any rides after that without hysteria and promises from mom and dad that it wouldn't be scary. He wouldn't even ride the Goofy Coaster after that....lost all trust in us.:B So just because they are "tall enough" doesn't mean it is age appropriate. On that trip they loved small world, Peter Pan, Buzz lightyear and the safari ride at AK. There is plenty to do, I wouldn't hesitate to take a 4 year old to the Disney parks. Epcot does have less, but my kids enjoyed Epcot both times. Turtle talk with Crush...too cute, and they make it fun in World Showcase. Look carefully there is plenty to do. Do NOT take her on Dinasour at Animal Kingdom. Another ride for "short" riders, that is too scary and age innappropriate. I can't tell you how many kids under age 6 I have seen on that ride that were prepared to pee in their pants and/or vomit from fright. Strollers - we didn't learn the advantages of a stroller till the second day, don't hesitate to rent one, then you have a place to store a soft-sided cooler with drinks/snacks etc., plus they have a top so you can create shade if they need a quick snooze enroute to whereever. And, if you rent one at one park in the morning, your voucher is good all day at any of the other parks, and if you pay for mutliple days at once you get a discount. We're headed there the week of Thanksgiving, I made my ressie in Oct. 08. Can't wait to camp at the fort! Have fun, take lots of picks. I guarantee you will cry the first time she sees Cinderella's castle, one of the princesses AND (if she makes it up that late) when she catches a glipse of Tinkerbell during the fireworks. I cry everytime.:B

RE: Coleman Roadtrip question

We were told there was no way we could hook up our Roadtrip to the RVQ outlet...balderdash. Done it, works great....see this thread. I have the grills, griddle and pot attachment. Tend to just use griddle and pot grate, we prefer to grill over charcoal or campfire. Click Here Pics of my adapter/hose set up on 2nd and 3rd pages. I like the Roadtrip, folds up nice fits in front storage. I let it cool and wipe it down with paper towels. Easy cleanup, but like I said we don't grill on it, I suppose that may make it messier....
