RE: Wiring a 220 electric motor?

well here is how you wire that "220" two speed motor. Both black leads are hooked to the same winding - don't ask me why. The commom stays hooked to one of the two 240 leads. the other lead goes to the orange for low and either one or both of the black leads for high. Of course you gotta have the switch. And I am not an electrical professor and I am still alive and the fan works like a charm. :) This should be the way it's wired but make sure you use a double throw switch because you can't have the Black high speed wires and the red low speed wire hooked up at the same time, if you do it will burn out the motor (commonly known as letting the smoke out). I have decided to go with a Honda That was a good choice they are a lot quieter than the contractor style generator you were looking at and they will last longer. Contractor generators are made to run for a few years and then retired after the abuse and neglect on a job site. Denny

Well Denny. You are one of the lucky ones. I can show you a hospital in Dallas. That has a one meg Generac. They do not do surgery if there is a chance that the power may fail. The genset is called a maybe generator. Maybe it will start and maybe it wont. Took us a year to find fuel filters for it.Had to import them in from Japan. I can also tell you some horror stories about Genajunk. Your talking about very large standby generators and we are talking about generators for RVs. They are not even in the same class. Denny

We have Generac 17Kv generator that runs our ranch in the event of a power out. Great unit. Has seen 75 flawless hours so far. 75 hours is 3 days and 3 hours of running. Run it a few thousand hours (very doubtful it'll last that long), then tell us how happy you are with it. Good luck with it should you ever need warranty or parts. You will learn all about frustration. Ever wonder why there are almost no generac gensets in an application where it has to work, like a hospital? Discussing what brand of generator system to put in a hospital with a hospital engineer a few years ago, the engineer made a statement to the effect that no one ever got fired for buying a Cat or and Onan. The choices were Cat, Katolight, Kohler, Generac and Onan. Katolight won out. Too often folks go for the lowest price thinking that it will be the best value. Most times it is not, very little value in buying low cost equipment that has a warranty no one will honor and with repair parts that are hard to acquire and excessively expensive when found. I used to own a business that installed, repaired and serviced standby generators, can relate many generac horror incidents where the customer was left holding the bag. Well after 12 years I'm sure ours is up in the at least 1K hours range plus it will start right up at 8K ft unlike our little Honda I charge batteries with, it even started right up at 11K( the top of Berthoud Pass Co). I haven't had any problems with parts because I haven't needed any besides oil filters and I get them form NAPA. Denny

RE: Generac GP3250

Anyone use a Generac 3250. I am having a hard time justifying 2K for a Honda. They have these at a farm and fleet for under 400 bucks. It looks like there is no 30 amp plug in though. Going to Colorado/Utah in a couple weeks and need to make a decision Thanks There is no comparison between the Honda generator and the contractor style 3250 you are looking at. Run one of those when dry camping you better be a long way from any other campers because of the noise. Getting any generator of that style are hard to get repaired because of the price it's cheaper to throw it away. We have a 5KW Generac RV style generator that has been in 3 different trailers in the last 12 years and it has been trouble free. Denny

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Transforce+HT Go to this site and you will find the 235/85/16 tires are 31.7" dia with a 7.1 tread face and the 265/75/16 are 31.7 dia and have a 8" tread face and the 265 will fit a 7 to 8" rim. If you go to the Trailer Wheel and tire site almost all the 16" wheels have a 7" width. I know some trailer don't have the extra room for the wider tires but that's would have to be measured to make sure they will fit. When I talked with GY a few years back about your 614s and asked about tread width because their site recommended a 6.5" wheel and ours where a 6" steel wheel they said a little smaller didn't make any difference but a wider than recommended with was not recommended. RE: v-10 tune-up

You didn't state what your mileage was but until you hit 100K you should be fine. The fuel filter is more of a problem than the plugs, if you change the plugs use Motocraft or Autolight (they are the same plug). Number 5 is a bear but it's very doable just remember to torque them to 14 ft lbs and check the plug boots. Denny

Our first trailer a 87 HH the Copper glass belted tires lasted for 9 years, replaced them with GY Marathons after they wore out, second 5ver a 98 HH still had the original GY LT tires when we traded for a 01 HH and that had the original GY LT tires on it when we traded for our present 03 HH, this trailer is on its 3rd set of tires because of tread separation, they are no longer GY G rated tires but none GY H rated so hopefully they well last 5 to 7 years like they should. Our trailers have always been stored in a building or the tires covered when not in use. Denny

Nu-Wa will always go out of their way to take care any warranty problems even if it's not at a HH dealer or send you the parts if you can do it yourself. They also have a great parts department that stocks most parts needed to repair and maintain your trailer at a fare price and fast shipping also at a fare price. Denny

Most that are going to the 17.5 wheels are going with the H tires, I think the J would be way to much weight rating and may cause a hard ride. We Went with the H rated ones. Denny

Here is another testimonial for the GY 614 tires. After being gone for 2.5 months and just leaving NuWa 3 days before I blew a G614 fifty miles from home. Tore up the wheelwell/fender skirt, took out the rear door side mudflap and mounting bracket as well as the limit switch on the Big Foot. I had checked the tires when I left Ft. Worth and they were right at 110psi. As usual the tire threw the tread and that did the damage. I contacted GY and told them no more G614 tires for me since this the third time this has happened. I want them all replaced with G114. I'll post how that goes. I checked the pressure on the other tires when I had the blow out and found them to be north of 125psi. I understand that tires will increase in pressure due to heat build up but 15lbs seems like a lot. Good Sam sent service and mounted the spare. When I got to the next stop Rayford Crossing RV resort I found that the inside of the new spare had been ground away about an inch and a half wide and one inch deep. The tire was still holding air but I don't know how. Apparently there was some debris in the wheel well that he did not see. I thank the good Lord that we didn't get killed or kill someone else with these tires. This is more common than some people will lead to believe. Denny

RE: LT235/85/16 G-rated tire EXPLODED!

I have a 2005 Cardinal 37RL with 7,000 pound axles with 1/2in studs and I have never had any problems with the studs. If I change from 16in wheels to 17.5in wheels to increase the carrying capacity of my tires, do I need to put 9/16in studs in or will the 1/2in studs be strong enough? Vroadracer, Dickson, TN You aren't increasing the capacity of the axles you are just increasing the tire safety margin so your studs should be fine. I sent you a PM about the wheels and stud sizes. NC Hauler, Did not want to quote all of the above quotes. The tires that came on my trailer were E rated tires good for 3,042 pounds per tire. Had no problems for 2 1/2 years. When I wanted to buy new tires I went to the G tires. Inflating them to 100 pounds gives you a rating of 3,550 pounds per tire. I should be fine when looking at that I am picking up an additional 500 pounds per tire. The axles on the trailer are 7,000 pound axles. Don When we bought our second set of GY 614 tires the dealer in Reno told me to run them at 90 psi, I didn't believe him so I contacted GY and there representative told me to run them at 110 psi at all times no matter what the trailer weight was. They still only lasted 2.5 years but I did run them at the pressure they recomemded. I now run our H tires at the recommended 125 psi even with the 35% safety factor I now have. Denny

Interesting discussion. GY & my 5ver mfr participated in switching out my wheels and tires to wheels rated to 110psi and the G614s 3 yrs ago after I had 13 separations on the GY E rated tires over 4-5 yrs. Actually, I believe I had 15 but 2 of them were blown so bad that the cause couldn't be determined. Based on weight slips by individual wheels, the rig is was within the tire limits So I've had the G614s on my 3 axles for almost exactly 3 yrs now and I had started to get retrained to driving with my eyes on the road ahead of me rather than on my rear view mirrors watching for rubber to start spraying the road surface. 45 days ago I had the first of my 6 G614s separate. The tire did not loose air pressure - just all its tread. GY adjusted it out satisfactorily. Then this past Sat I saw another of my tires shredding rubber and tread and then the tire blew as I was going to the shoulder. GY finally managed to get another G614 to Columbia, MO this morning so I'm back on the road again. Again they adjusted the tire just fine but I'm concerned that the 'trend' is starting again only this time with a tire that is not kept in stock at many dealers. With all the separations, I've rarely had any rig damage and the few times I've had damage to the skirts, GY has stepped up and taken care of it. That's been fine in the past but since my rig mfr is no longer in business, I'm also concerned that replacement parts of that sort might be more difficult to obtain. I run with cruise set between 58-60mph and I check all six tire's psi in the morning of each travel day and with the truck's air compressor, it's easy for me to maintain their pressures at 105#. FWIW What you need to do is inspect the tread at the first rib and see if there are any signs of tearing (the tread belt ends halfway through the first rib), they will look like small short splits in the tread face. When we lost our first tread the rest of the tires looked fine until we removed the one in front of the one that failed and it had the small tears in the first rib. The tire guy said it was next so we replaced all four. That is how I found the bad tire last fall before it had a chance to damage the trailer. Denny
